Proxy using alot of memory...

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by killaklown, Mar 25, 2007.

How come my proxy (phpproxy) is using so much memory? I just created it today and as soon as theres more then just me on the site, the memory gets really high.

It gets up to ~300mb and then my VPS gets messed up or something and i need to reboot it.

Only load the needed modules...reduce the keepalive timeout (so memory gets freed up faster)...among other things.

Then this has nothing to do with tweaking. There have to be something wrong with the script or the server. Try to run it on an other server.

Hmm, so far its been up for 1+ hour and hasnt gotten over 23% memory used. I think that link aginvo posted works a bit. I asked my host if they can find any problem with it.

Thanks killaklown for trying out my optimization guide. Disabling of unnecessary modules isn't covered in that though...apache and mysql are real memory hoggers and I hope you'll see some improvement now.

Glad that it worked for you...I hope your server isn't crashing now.
Also, check an alternative apache config as comment on that page.

And monitor your vps regularly and see if there are any adverse effects or not... Good Luck

well, then its not a memory problem as it seems.
Are the installed packages, OS and especially the script ok?
I smell something is wrong with your script or your VPS provider has seriously limited your system resources. Check beancounters values

hmm, i dont know how to check is scripts are installed correctly, or how to check the beancounters values... First time with a VPS and i only had it for 3-4 days.

I posted this before, these 2 things says there not installed:

    httpd httpd Apache Web Server
    named named Bind Dns Server

Is that a problem? How do i install those?

hmm...128MB guaranteed is too little for running proxies. Get atleast 384MB guaranteed RAM.

Also if apache and named aren't installed how come you park domains to this vps and the webpages are being served ?
