Though I have voted for the page I'll be listed--I do actually consider many other things. Its a shame that I can choose only one of them:p
I consider --PR and PS the most. If a directory has Good PS-- it is sure that all other things like Alexa and backlinks are right.

    Price is important too-as always.

Sorry- I din't realize it:( --anyway I look at most of the options listed--most importantly though --the PR of the page I'll be listed and PS of the directory -to strictly follow G's rules--"vote by a reputed site":p

To be honest all my income from the directory is reinvested into get links from quality directories, I m sure most of the top directories owners will see my submissions. And to be honest, I dun want to compete to be the best directory, because my aim is to be a high quality directory with lots to offer to the submitter.

I want to improve on what the directory can improve on. Hence i started a thread to ask the public what gives them a good reason to want to submit to a directory.

Put it this way, i dun see it as a competition between directories owners because, as a webmasters wanting quality backlink for SEO purposes, will not buy only 1 link. It is a continuous thing to do. So if directories owners can come up with alliance, and do publicity for one another, it is just like recycling customers. ( not in a bad sense, more like helping them to find another few options to get backlinks. )

In a marketing research done globally, comparing the American and European industry, it was found out that during 1990s to early 2000s, the Americans has more than tripled their revenues compared to their European counterparts just by doing something so simple. Make a guess what did they do.

They recycled their list, by exchanging each other databases... of course in a legal way. They help publicise other people's products and services ( within the same industry ). Just by doing that alone. And this is what is happening to gurus now too, (IM gurus). Maybe we should learn something from them.

    I called it "Leverage".

    My 2 pence....

So what and where is this Quality Directory that you have ?

You are starting to sound like someone i know... with the HIGH quality mumbo jumbo..
and prices that are out of reach for most of us webmasters that have budgets and bills to tend to.

A friend of mine from china best explained the market to myself..
as he sees it and i must agree with him....

    A. Lower level link sells.... 1-10 bucks for links

    B. Medium level sells... 10-30 bucks for links

    c. High society sell... 50 + for a link due to the Name or branding...

I guess it really depends on were the chips fall...

Myself i try to provide links for the average webmaster who has a budget to better
themselves in search engines and offer them much more then the average directory
( Imho) in some aspects... so i guess im really riding in the middle class.

Sorry ive always been very competitive person and see nothing wrong with that...
as it helps to make me stronger and make others change their tactics hehehehe

We all buy from each other sooner or later...well if we can afford to do so..
so while i say competitve,... we all exchange funds and have fun doing what we do
    atleast i do...

    thx
