Will using href=nofollow damage my site

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by fcmisc, Mar 25, 2007.

    Hi,

I'm linking to sites with pictures relevant to my articles.

However, some of the pages are blatant spam and laden with adverts, so I'm using href=nofollow and warning my visitors.

In terms of SEO, will this damage my site?

    Cheers,

    fcmisc.

If you are linking to the site why would you want to use nofollow?
nofollow was designed for links submitted by users which the webmaster has no control over and as such doesn't want to vouch for that site, If you don't want bots to follow a link don't post it.

Incidentally, Linking out to link-worthy sites will equally have no negative effect on your site or your SERPS. Google do not punish people for linking out.

the no follow is a smart way to go...it means that you are not giving that other site traffic, thats the way I understand it anyway.

People can still click a no follow link, Search engines may even follow it. It's just a way of telling a search engine that you don't vouch for the site you are linking to.
