New to SMF, new to forum management, new to php. I am having some problems after changing a theme. I've posted about it in the SMF forum but I don't think they appreciate just how much of a noob I am.

Is any experienced SMF'er willing to help a complete dumbo through the process of getting things to work properly? Pleeeeeasssse.

    Hi Diether,

I changed default to babylon, modified it to suit the website colours (css only) then when I changed to that theme a lot of functionality was lost. I have also saved (stupid, I know) the modifications over the original babylon theme.

I really liked the modifications I made. The new forum really suited my website and I prefer that layout. Unfortuately, I can't use that modified theme because I have no idea how to fix whatever was broken.

For the moment, I have gone back to default and everything is back in working order. This time I have made a copy of the default and will modify it in the background and test to death before I make it live.

I guess I can live with that until I get more comfortable. Thanks for stepping up to help though. I appreciate that and know who to call on next time I am in a fix. ;)

You can't loose functionality if you just use the css file though :p
But anyway, don't hesitate to contact me if you need help with something.
I'm not such a pro with SMF either (hardly know php), but I'm learning.
And everytime I help somebody I learn a little more ;)

    Diether,

I am such a plonker at this stuff, I've gone and lost my whole admin section now. Aaaaagh!

I'd shoot myself if I didn't have a dentist appointment to look forward too. I'm currently reuploading the whole themes folder to see if that solves the problem. God help me when I get it live with members pouring through the door and then touch the wrong button. LOL

Let me know how it turns out.
You can also try to upload Subs.php in your sources folder I believe.
Think I read somewhere that certain admin functions are also controled from that file.

Thanks, I'll try that. So far the Theme folder update is not working. I am scouring the SMF board for previous posts about similar problems beofre I demonstrate what an idiot I am. I haven't seen that tip, yet. ;)

My admin page is blank. The forum itself is working but I have no access to admin at all. Uploading the themes hasn't helped. I haven't tried the subs.php yet. I haven't had any time to do it today and tbh, I am now afraid of making things worse.

If you didn't install any mods yet you can just upload all the files again.
Except for settings.php (stores the database username, password and a few other things)

Safest to download the update download from the downloads page then upload all the files from that, that you you can be sure not to overwrite Settings.php ;) Plus there is less junk like images etc so it will be quicker.

Bendo, are you Ben_S on the SMF forum?
    I recognize your signature ;)

And it's indeed better to upload the update files.
Didn't think about it. Thanks for pointing it out :)
