    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

Quadrupled my CTR thanks to DP members.

I subscribe to an on-line clip-art service that lets me browse and download whatever I want for a yearly fee. I use it quite a lot for various sites and projects so it's a worthwhile expense.

    Hello,

and now Ebay.de makes it in his own Partnerprogramm! Pics over Ads!
For Germans: look at: affilinet.de/Werbemittel/Ebay Relevance Ad.
    Someone can choose there: 160 x 600, 468 x 60, 728 x 90, 160 x 205/284.
They are ALL with Pictures over Text.

The problem with advertisers supplying their own pictures is that they may not fit as well into the page. I can only imagine the CTR falling in this case.

Your kidding right? If that is the case you should also think it is unethical to blend the ads into your site, tricking your visitors into thinking they are links on your site or part of your content. You should stop using Adsense altogether so you can sleep at night.

I just love the fact that somebody gives me bad rep for this. I always leave my name and a reason. If somebody is being stupid, the one what to rehabilitate them is to give them a reason why ;)

Blending text with words only works when the content and ads is related.

When a individual sees a picture, then text right next to it they automatically assume the text is related to the picture. At least most humans to. I would be inclined to think the text explains the picture. Therefore clickthroughs are bound to increase.

Unless your offering a photogallery or another most image based service, be careful...

This might work really well for a photo related site like mine... any ideas on how to best integrate it?

I know of a photo site using this, they pick random images from their database and show them. as the images are of landscapes / non-famous people, they are quite generic.

And then what type of content do they have on the page so to create "matching ads"? Do you have the URL for the site so I can check it out? ;)

two small ads with two small pics on a page filled with a bunch of better choices... the ads are for things like "elvis surveys", which really isn't very compelling to click on... repeat visitors will ignore it, and most any other ads in a situation like that... have you tried ad filtering to generate more targeted ads?

i take all my own photos, which are very relevant to the adsense ads that i am constantly filtering the junk out of... my ctr is not real impressive at all, despite the fact that i am using this technique in what must be one of the most optimal and legitimate situations that it could be used in... i even emailed google and got the blessing to do it, although my epc took a nosedive right after they checked it out

the comment that photos can't help target adsense could be misleading... if the names of the photos are correctly targeted to the relevant content of the site, then they will show up in the photo search engines, which sends traffic to the site... so on top of that, does adsense recognize photo names as part of the targeting scheme?

You can answer your own quesion if you do a google image search and see how many of the top images returned have file names that match the image. Then visit the site of those top images and see where the words are in relation to the images.

so critters have you noticed a decrease in CTR after removing the pigs? are you planning on putting them back up?

I have a pretty good CTR with the large rectangle - i think images would probably work best with the horizontal ads - but i get way better CTR with vertical ads.

am i allowed to say what my CTR is? i think that might be a violation -

I tweaked some yesterday and increased my CTR anout 25% (just changing colors to white on white) - but the best part is I removed the other ad areas that were not performaing well - and the avg $ per click has risen dramatically - its only around 5PM in CA so I still have about 7 hours left and today is already the highest day I have ever had.

    woohoo :D

can you say what you make in a day? maybe i should go read the TOS

You can say gross earnings, but cannot say CTR%.

A couple days ago I stumbled upon a pair of web sites which are not only obviously "built-for-adsense", but also do a great job of putting this thread's theory into practice. Wish I knew whether the sites' owner was using this design prior to the start of this thread, but regardless, these are model sites not only for the pictures melded with ads concept, but they're so "tight" -- deviously deceptive...

Such a case study for building an optimized concept site designed purely to lure a visitor in, disguise the fact that there's no useful content to be found, and offer no external links other than an ad click. And the density of focused terms for SEO looks quite high as well.

So class, study these sites and give us a 2000 word report on Monday.

Kudos to the person who built them (though that's not an personal endorsement of this style). Brings to mind my feelings about Microsoft: I don't much respect their work, but I can't help but marvel at their marketing ingenuity!

    man those sites are weak - nothing like spewing useless garbage to collect ad revenue. and that person should really learn how to use css padding:5px;

they did do a nice job of making their google ads look like a menu though

Yes, the same day I removed the images my CTR went down 3x.

I am leaving them off to see if the eCPM goes up. Even tho its costing me $100's.. cos I am nice like that. Taking one for the team ;)

(advantage of having a full time job)

Silly stuff that will soon get him banned!

On a side note...if he would just change his links to #0000FF, his CTR would increase by .2% or more....:D
