Interesting thought. I've been thinking for sometime that if I were working for MySpace security, I would definately take interest in the transactions against the TOS within the forums.

B.Adder? I was not aware of the login problem, cmts don't work anymore that's for sure.
didn't they basically shut down SNF b/c they were such a den of phishers, well probably not all of them of course but there was a BIG number of people selling "lists" of phished accounts and the like.

    Good question.

However, the guy who bought adderrobot (the poor soul) said that within 14 days MySpace would have the door shut on "all" of them

Soon... Only one comment or friend request every 60 seconds. Then 2 minutes Then 5 thanks t spammers.

i'd also like to see an automated email to accounts that have been phished telling them to change their password.

They should also limit bulletins to no moer than 4 per day.

Onc they get a handle on these issues, the can start reviewing past logs and cancelling accounts with high bot-added accounts. I feelsorry for all those people that created and relied on spam accounts.

The internet has the fantastic ability to "remember".

These actions will eventually make it a better place and actually a stronger marketing place for those of us that follow the rules.

I have 20,000 friends that were all at their request. Personally thanked every one and thake the time to go thru 7-9 pages of birthdays and send a manual "Happy Birthday".

I also report every spam message I receive and report every phishing and inappropriate content message. I think this makes my account an asset to MySpace helping to combat abuse.

    Good for you :) Here's an e-cookie ;)

BUT, let me ask you this. If myspace was truly serious about security and protecting their users...why didn't/don't they have a BIG splash page alerting people to the problems....DAILY.

How about a section dedicated to just that sort of thing???

NO, instead we get blasted by: 'featured video, featured music artist, featured comedy, featured book????' - are you kidding me???

HEY, and don't forget the 17 sponsers

What's the average turn on the profiles you report? 2 months? I'm sure they'll be all over the logs from 2005.

if it wasn't for my adblocker I'd be going into convulsions nearly every time I opened a myspace page

Look, I know they have to pay the bills too but jeebus, it's out of control IMO. It's like a freaking Nascar, ads/stickers covering every possible square pixel on the screen.

and as a bonus we are now graced with adwords by GOOGLE

Looks like MySpace and another website that used to be a goldmine have been SPAMMED OUT. They're not the first (remember MSN chat traffic going to hell because of bots) nor would they be the last. The same pattern applied to UseNet NewsGroups, WMP autopops in P2P networks, email community groups, some early forms of social networking sites, etc. Basically any site that has TONS of existing traffic poached mercilessly without putting anything of value back to the community in exchange. I've discussed this issue in snippets at http://justtraffic.blogspot.com

See, the problem with the limitations proposed by bunnybling is that MANY users will legimately post more than 4 a day. Heck, I've seen some friends post about 40 in a day. Can it be annoying? Maybe - but it's my choice to view the bulletins, and it's definitely not spam. Sending one comment/message/request per 60 seconds might be a good limit, but again there are many legitimate instances where you would want to send more than that. If MySpace gets too annoying to use legitimately, people will just move to another service, and of course they don't want that.

    good call. very good point.

Even when I send comments by hand, legitimate, real, spam, free, comments, I do it en mass - maybe 10-15 at a time.

I got other stuff to do too you know!
