is namecheap a trusted domain registrar?

Well, I still don't get it. Went to the top registrar list and MyDomain.com don't seems to be on the list at all. I guess we could give new name registars a try or else they will never have a chance to grow.

Looking at their WhoIs shows that they are using the Whois Privacy and MyDomain.com seems to be registered in Dotster. Are they are Dotster reseller ?

 

MyDomain was purchased by Dotster in 2003, they are a Dotster company. In business since 1998. This is the website where I got my first domain name, really long time ago. Find them to be pretty stable, never got a problem at all there. I use their DNS services, free for domains not registered with them, too.

Giving a new registrar a try is something every business deserves if that means purchasing a domain name for testing and stuff. Not when you have hundreds or thousands of domains to play with.

Namecheap is definitely the best registrar. Heard some bad news about godaddy, but im not worry about it. Only have 2 domain with them. The biggest scam is Registerfly. Lots of forum discussing about them now, like WHT. I really have bad experiences with them!

I like namecheap, got all my domains reg there. There is just one problem, im pretty new to that domain thing, and i dont know how to do all that with nameservers and dns and such :s

 

i have been with namecheap for over 4 years with no problems other than slow support at times

I have used 1and1 and am frustrated with their control panel for managing many domains. I will have to start buying from NAMECHEAP and try them out.

 

Well, it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to use their nameservers or you want to use your web host's name servers ?

If you want to use your web host name server, what you need to do is to click on the domain name after you log in and on the left panel click 'Domain Name Server Setup' then type in the DNS details which your web host provided you and that's it.

If you want to use Namecheap Nameserver then what you need to do is the following :-

1) Click 'Transfer DNS Back to Us'
2) Then when you are done with that, you see more options on the left panel, click on 'All Host Records'.

3) Both the '@' and the 'www', type in the IP address of your site and make sure the Record Type is 'A'. If you do not know what it is, ask your web host or it may appear in your control panel or welcome email by your webhost. It does not matter if it is shared or dedicated. (This will settle the web access)

4) Then you may need to set up your FTP links or any other sub directory, type the first part of the name in the 'Sub-Domain Setting' column, such as 'ftp' then in the next column type in either the IP address (if it is not the same as in step 3 and make sure it is the 'A' record. If it is the same, you can type in the IP address and set to 'A' Record or you can type in the domain name and set it to the 'CNAME'.

5) For email, set to 'User Simplied' then save.

6) Then you should see a new column listed. The Host Name would be your domain name without the 'www'. Then type in the IP address of your mail server, typically it should be the same as Step 3. Mail Type set to 'MXE' and since there is usually only one mail server, the MX Pref you can set to any number you want, typically I will set to 5 or 10. Basically the lowest number get the first priority but if there is only one around, it makes no difference.

So in short, typically the record should look like this

@ 1.2.3.4 A
www 1.2.3.4 A

[Sub-Domain Setting]
ftp domain.com CNAME
mail domain.com CNAME
subdomain domain.com CNAME

[Mail Setting]
domain.com 1.2.3.4 MXE (MXEasy) 10

I own a bunch of domains through namecheap.com and I have not had any problems with them. Many domainers use their service as it is so easy to push domains with them once you sell one.

 

110% go with namecheap everything is so easy to do

 

I have a number of domains with them and they have never been anything but great.
