I have been asked to setup a wordpress blog. Pretty basic stuff. He is asking for an hourly price. How much should i charge?
depends if you want repeat custom or not. one time job: $50 want repeat work: $25. PLUS ALL OTHER WORK = $$$$
Set up as in install, or design a custom theme and everything? If it's for design, I'd charge mega bucks since most people don't know how to do it.
for a theme...at least 100$ plus an hourly fee...I have seen that average to 150-200$ for what I have done and its been fine...
If it involves setting up a custom design WP site, a few pages of content, implementing analytics, putting a all the best plugins, and if they want it key word optimized I charge $200 to $500.
IMHO, you should charge what you value your time to be worth, and ignore what everyone else charges. If you don't know what it is worth, then I would take the time to figure it out. And I don't mean this sarcastically, I mean literally, put a dollar value on each hour of the day. Be sure to take into account your personal time and what that means to you. If you are desperate for work, then obviously your hourly rate should be lower, but if you are already working overtime, then you should "weigh" things out. I am sure someone could do it for less, but I am also sure that someone would charge more. I have a friend who refuses to work more than 40 hours per week, because she wants to spend time with her family. When someone asks her to do a consutling job she charges 3x what she normally makes because it takes her away from her kids. She puts that money towards her kids college fund. And her clients gladly pay it because they want her to do it. (Even then she never works more than 50 hours per week). Your time is your time and its value is what you place on it. Don't forget, that person came to you for a reason.....
Thanks haynesey! I am sure others will say that it is a "hokey" response, but I have found it to be a very good rule to follow. That way you never sell yourself short (BTW, that "friend" I mentioned, I am always trying to send work to her at really good rates, and she turns down a lot of jobs! (Usually it is just because she wants time with her hubby and kids ).
