Anybody have a connection inside DMOZ?

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by yo-yo, Jul 26, 2005.

Just wondering if any of you have a connection on the inside .. or are editors yourself?

I've read that the editors are for the most part, corrupt, and accepting payments to list sites...

I have several sites I really want to get in and I've been waiting a long time... :(

Exactly... don't believe everything you read... but many of us have suffered in real life with corrupt editors and know what we are talking about

Geez, there's an amazing lack of subtlety these days. It says something when people seriously and quite publicy offer listed payments.

I'm sure there're quite a few others here who will take up on the purchasing of DMOZ entries though.

Miles off base IMO. The corrupt editors reflect a very very small minority IMo. Selfish, biased and self interest editors are far more common. But most common of all are genuine, 100% honest editors who do the job for the love of it and nothing else.

I am a so-called "Editall", I can edit in any category of the ODP.

And I am going to disappoint you - I am not open to offers. Public or private.

The "corrupt DMOZ editor" blog has been talked about at length on this and other fora - just search for the URL and you will find no end of speculation about who the person is, whether they really are an editor, whether what they say is true, etc., etc., etc.

If you can find a corrupt DMOZ editor who will take money for listings - good luck to you. Just bear in mind that if they get found out, chances are all those listings would get deleted anyway. Then what have you gained?

But you are going to have to look in a direction other than mine.

I am an DMOZ editor, and actually never got any bribe offered.

The only thing I done above my normal editing is that I approved two of my sites, that are anyhow of good quality. I also submitted few more to other categories and got one accepted till now (none rejected), as nearly all other categories do not have an active editor.

I am in a small Regional category and I am not looking for any big DMOZ career.

    PHP:
If you actually believe that site - you are very easy toi fake out. Nothing posted on that site indicates that the site owner is a current editor - despite the claims. It's possible they may have been at some point in the past. It's most likely it was an editor that got kicked out a couple of years ago - there are a lot of ex-editors around that like to rant about DMOZ.

I'm sure there are corrupt editors, but they are not going to be standing around with a sign around their neck doing public advertising.

It's very sad that so many posts have been made in so many SEO forums about that site as though it's real. It shows total gullibility on the part of so called SEO experts.

I edit on a few Decent directories, and the other day offended a customer by telling them point balnk that I would not accept one of their sites into the index. They asked why so I told them it was not suitable. They were very offended :) .

I often mail site owners to tell them why a site has been rejected etc. It is comical the way you see the same people submitting site after site full of crap, just trying to get backlinks. Most of the time I will let the person who submitted a decent site know where they went wrong. I will often write the page title, description etc for them and tell them that if they use it on submissions for other directories they will not be rejected. Most often I just get an abusive reply, so suffice to say that there are more crooked web masters than there are crooked Directory editors ;)
