I'm starting to look into dedicated hosting. Who would you guys recommend? I've been using ASO for some of my smaller sites. I'm now in the position where I want to consolidate a lot of my stuff onto one server.
Well, I've got two forums that I run, a handful of blog style sites (modified blogger templates), etc. One of the forums I run uses an NNTP hack which just eats up SQL Disk space, has over 1 million posts and indexes well. I looked at ASO's VPS offerings but the space doesn't seem like much. Dedicated might be my only option.
Windows or *nix? I can highly recommend ThePlanet. They have really good pricing, equipment, and service.
When you get a few options do a quick search at www.webhostingtalk.com and read some opinions there... you can save yourself lots of headaches and finally pick the best one
we have been using www.sprintserve.net for a while now. They take care of all the management and placing of the servers in the datacenter. There are always small issues that come up in technology, I can say they took care of them quickly, which is what I am glad to pay them for. The nice thing is they have volume discounts at many datacenters, which means you can select a prefered DC if you like. keep an open mind on www.webhostingtalk.com , there are a lot of idiots over there that will blame anything on a host. It's 10PM and the sun went down, must be because of my dedicated host!
Agreed. A lot of good companies aren't mentioned on there and a lot of the companies selling dedicated servers are simply resellers of larger companies and do not have much technical know-how. If you are new to dedicated servers then you may want to pay a bit more and get a managed solution.
