I've searched for definitive answer and have yet to find it. What do you say?

I've submitted to them a few times over the years, with barely any results.

It really depends on what you expect to get out of it. I get a fair amount of traffic from some of my listings there and the ones I keep around make enough money from the direct use of the directory to pay for themselves. As far as SEO purposes, it really depends on what category you want to go in. If it's showing less than PR5 on the actual directory page, it's probably not worth the cost...plenty of better places to spend that kind of money.

google ranking gives you a good boost if you are linked from yahoo directory, and all good websites are mostly linked from yahoo.

So its all upto you, if u can afford it , go for it.

If you can afford to pay the submission fee then i would say go for it as there are considerable amount of benefits involved with a Yahoo Directory listing like

Link from an authority site that Google trusts.
Chances of better ranks in yahoo search.
    Direct Traffic from the listing.
Collateral benefit in other sites using the yahoo directory resources.

It depends on what you want to do, and in turn what you expect from the Yahoo directory. We've found it invaluable for our purposes of online retailing, and easily make back the directory cost in a day once it hits other indexes. But we have specific niches of specific markets, and the directory link juice (and just plain traffic) translates well.

If your site is more general interest, or you're making money from ads as opposed to actually moving a concrete product it's probably not as good an idea. I haven't looked but I'm guessing you won't get much benefit from an entry in "Directory > Humor" (I'm making these categories up) as you would in say "Beds > Retailers". You'll still get the directory link juice, but the nature of monetizing the site is a little different.

So I guess my definitive answer is, if you have a specific product or products, and can move enough product at a high enough profit, Yahoo Directory is a good idea. For other scenarios it's not a bad idea, but certainly a less good idea.

PS-In what may or may not be unrelated to this our sites in the directory are usually in the top 10 in Yahoo for their keywords, and their natural traffic often matches or exceeds Google natural traffic for the same keywords. I'm not sure if Yahoo is so crass as to give you a higher organic result based solely on whether you've given them $300 though.

Im looking for both a boost in traffic from inclusion and a boost in ranking by inclusion. Don't have money to blow, but now my curiosity has taken over. I gotta see what effect it has on traffic and ranking. Will report back in hopes of helping the next guy like me. Thanks for the feed back.

Ok so many of you are saying there are better ways to spend your money. I'm running general run of the mill stuff that many are doing. What woudl you suggest I spend my money and more importantly time doing at an early stage (no PR) to get my PR ranking up?
