Adsense on Directories

Discussion in 'Directories' started by Dubz, Mar 7, 2007.

How do you feel about them? Do you think it cheapens the look of the directory? Makes it look like a money grab? What are your thoughts. Thinking of putting some in one of my dirs.

Also curious do directories generally work well with adsense? <click ratio>

    Thanks!

Adsense improves very much your user experience, makes your directory stand out of the croud.

Because almost 90% of visitors are webmasters adsense works very well, they are very uneducated technologically so they are always wiling to click on ads.

You don’t even need listings just put adsense looks really cool.

I owned a few directories, I put adsense on some free dirs. Usually no adsense on paid directory. Why not put adsense on free directory? People should make living!

but CTR is very low for directories..I only earn a few bucks a month...

Why not put paid directory affiliate banners on the place of adsense!

Personally I dislike adsense in directories, consider your audience, do you think they would be clicking the ads?

The less an adsense block stands out on the page, the less I hate it... which is still quite a bit ;)

I think we all have our own opinions about adsense, I use it and it works well, but I suppose a lot of directories don't get the traffic,so It would be better to use banners or something of that nature, really I don't know what the fuss is about using adsense on a directory,if you get the traffic you will get the clicks, pretty simple:D

I use both - affiliate banners and adsense :)
Adsense on submit page works for free directories.;)

I'd rather see some sitewide links instead of adsense. If you have a free directory then you are better off selling some sitewides or a few banners. Plus the monthly profit is higher, sell 10 sitewides at $5 a month and make $50, of course that is still nothing to do cartwheels about but it is better than making $1.50 a month off of adsense.

hahah Agreed. Another thing. Do links to adsense count as outbound links? Or is it inside the google applet so it doesn't count? I so ...

Adsense links do not count as outbounds as far as know, but I have never used them so I can not really be sure on that.

Where does the number come from?
That's not always the case. I am aware of several directories (general or niche), which receive good amount of search engine traffic, and work well with adsense. It also depends on how/where the directory owner markets their directories.

Dont you think it is against TOS of adsense to display in places with no content ?

I have seen many directory owners hiding the form submit somewhere unseen and they show Adsense ads right where the submit button should be!

There are many serious directory owners who work hard and try to make the job of maintaining a directory the same as maintaining a search engine, while there are many jokers who tend to give the wrong impression to all web directories.

    Cheers

Exactly! I've found it is much more lucrative and constructive to my directory to offer banner space rather than getting pennies per click from G-Ads.
