An suggestions for my blog?

Well, I've finally got around to installing Josh the Aspie's Blog, and was hoping I could get some feedback on it.

This is a nucleus blog (the same type I'll be responsible for deploying at work soon, so no, I won't be changing blog software any time in the near future).

If anyone has any suggestions for pre-built skins, or modules, or any modifications they feel I should do to the blog as it currently stands, please let me know.

    Hello Josh Ino,

It looks fine to me. Only thing: don't you find there are already too
much outgoing links at the bottom right of your blog?

I imagine that's free webhosting but... well you can get rid of them
    later :)

    Good luck,
    SSG.

Ahhh yes. Far to many outgoing links. I'm leaving them there only until such a time as I pick or decide to make a new skin, and then they will be going away quite quickly.

I like how you're going with the site:
    - the background looks great
    - the yellow/white/grey color scheme is also good

I think the layout looks too plain however.. maybe add some more gradients to the site? (drop shadow gradient border around your blog)

Honestly, that's just the default nucleus blog skin. One I'm going to be looking into changing as on larger resolutions, more of the page is taken up by grey on the sides than by the actual content. I do like the drop shadow suggestion though.

Well, I've got an altered version of the blog skin up at Test blog. Would you guys mind comparing it to the skin currently in use at my main blog of Josh the Aspie's Blog?

The new one has a variable width based on the width of the browser so that people with larger resolutions will be able to use more of their screen, but some people have said that the skin I'm currently using, with it's narrower lay out is easier to read and more professional looking. I'm tinking of potentially using a percentage based width to keep some space on the sides, but still allow people to use more of their browser.

Which placement of navigation bar do you like better, right or left?

Does the underlining and brighter color for links help you find ones in the text, make them look harsh in the page, or both?

Which site makes it more obvious how to read more of the article with your link?

Which do you like better? Why? What strengths and weaknesses do you see between the two?

I far prefer the first blog to the second test blog, i'm not sure if the second one is a bit buggy but the first one just looks nicer. I prefer the layout and style of the first blog, the second one looks a little too wide. Maybe just increase the width of the first blog by a little bit?

The first blog uses a specific fixed width. So on a 800x600 screen it will look much the same as the second in terms of the width. The second uses variable width with a fixed width margin to each side. I'm looking into constraining the second one to a variable width based on percentages, with a minimum width equal to the first blog. I'm doing a bit of experimentation on that code now.

    Thanks for the input.

Between menu on the right vrs menu on the left, do you have a preference there?

    What about the link colors?

Thanks Andrewz, Tony. I'll try putting some more pictures in, in the near future.

As for the links, those are the links that came with the default skin. I'm more concerned with the basic structure and look/feel of the skin than I am with getting rid of links to the org that gave me the software for free. I figure I can leave them in for a bit as free promotion, until I get other things settled with it.

I'm more of a fan of the fixed version. Although you may think the grey takes up too much space, keep in mind that many users (including myself) don't browse with the window taking up the whole screen. One issue you run into with fluid widths is the line lengths get huge and that's a readability problem (one that doesn't occur in the fixed width site).
