YPN & international traffic

Discussion in 'Publisher Network' started by hitboy, Feb 27, 2007.

ok to tell you the truth I never really looked at ypn but I am in the usa so I suppose I should try it out.... My one concern is I remember months ago reading about people getting banned for too much international traffic..

    Does this still happen?

What traffic is considered international (excluding the USA of course)?

Also do they allow YPN to be used with other affiliate programs?

    Thanks!

Sorry wanted to add one more question does ypn care if there are gambling related pages?

I ran almost a million non-us hits which comprised about 70% of my traffic through YPN inadvertantly... (it was a proxy) without any problems.

And the fact that they're not counting them is another good reason to geotarget your ads.

That way you make money with your International traffic through AdSense, better than just dropping it and/or risking your YPN account :).

So just to clarify, Yahoo will only pay out on ads showing to users in the:

    U.S.
    Canada

    Anywhere else?

We are going to put in some geotargeting code to test YPN for these countries and Adsense for the rest.

as I understand it, YPN is only for US traffic, canada doesn't count.

I've seen someone build a script that shows YPN to US and Canada and Adsense when the ip is international.

thats possible to do...but I don't think canada is included...I think YPN groups it with international traffic....call them to find out for sure.

no need to call. they have stated very clearly in so many places it is nothing but crystal clear. US traffic only.

of course, they still show ads from canada and uk. but you will only be paid for US clicks.

I was almost sure I read something about the U.S. and Canada but after visiting their TOS, it does in fact state:

"you are a US-based business and you are operating Your Site and/or Your RSS Feed solely for viewing and use by users within the US"

On a side note, am I the only one who finds this comment rather absurd? Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the reason behind Yahoo's intentions, but to state that one's website is "only" to be viewed by users in the U.S. is completely rediculous and defies the mere basis of the "world-wide web".

To be in accordance with that statement, you would need turn away all traffic outside of the U.S.

no, they want you to geotarget your site so their ads are only shown to US visitors. it is absurd, but they make the rules. they are not asking you turn international traffic away from your site - just dont let then see ypn ads. this is easily and innacurrately done via geotargetting scripts.
