    Hello,

My name is Mike. I'm 27 in live in a suburb of Boston. I've been reading this forum for a while, but haven't begun posting until recently.

Been using the internet since Freshman year of highschool 1991/92.

Run a hosting/reseller company and am looking to expand into the world of profitable web sites as well.

Resume includes software engineer for a failed CMGI company, as well as web developer (perl) for Boston.com and recently php/mysql specialist for a small independent business and freelancing.

    php/mysql

    oh yeah, ya da man

my fav at the moment, much easier to learn and implement than ISAM was years back

although retired, I'm hoping to be hired as a part-time professor at our local community college, teaching (among other electronics courses) both php and mysql

It's really become a popular "standard" for creating powerful web sites. So many books have been written on it as well, it would be easy to pick one as a text book for the course and walk thru it for the class

and it would be so much more beneficial than the computer science courses i took in college

Don't tell him. I made the mistake of telling him what kind of underwear I wear the first day here and every since then he has been bugging me to send him a pair of my dirty underwear.

Wait nevermind that was someone else.

The name spawned from one of those cases of thinking of an idea and not realizing the big picture. "Underground music" + "Independent Hosting" = UNDIES

When I realized that I could just as successfully host businesses that had no ties to music (my niche) I rethought the name, but kept it anyways.

    Hi & Welcome to DP!

RE: Undies - I assumed you hosted "Underachiever Sites". Frank Kern & Ed Dale coined the phrase, and they're having something called Undies Month right now (I believe).

How exactly do they define such sites and where can I read more about them?

Let's see... This is their blog: http://underachieving.blogspot.com/ (which I believe is where they are doing the "undies month").

They released a course a few months ago, but it was high priced and limited to a certain number of buyers, so you can no longer find that at the site: http://www.underachievermastery.com/

I actually have the course. The gist is that you focus on very highly targeted niche markets. They set up what they call "flycatcher pages" and use PPC to survey the niche market they chose - and those answers or replies are used to develop a product for that market. Next step is a mini-site to sell that product.

I'm giving you the VERY general overview there, of course.

It seems hard to get to the core of what their system is. Maybe that's intentional since they are selling the course. But I'm not clear on why you need to be recording phone conversations and other such techniques...but thats ok...i'll just keep doing things the way I've been doing them.

I agree with you. I do have the course, but it is no longer available at their site. Those who have been following since the beginning (which is quite a group) know the lingo, and totally "get it".

I'm more into the "overachiever" type sites, myself :p :D LOL

    Anyway, great to meet you!
