I have 1.49GB of the Ram on my laptop computer device and sometimes if I don't close all my programs or nearly all of them I get a WINDOWS SYSTEM ERROR of all things when I try to hibernante.

    an error with windows?

that's what I thought! must have been a first the world over.

so needless to say I pull the plug on that B-word 9.99/10

Hibernate is best used for laptops.

At work a laptop can take a good few minutes to load everything from a cold boot. If you are out and about you don't wanna waste a few minutes to start the computer up.

hibernate is nice and fast. I wonder how much of an actual difference hibernating and shut down make to laptops and pc's.

But this doesn't have to do with the ram. A windows error is probably something in the software.. I think if you format you computer then you will fix the error.

No there's no energy consumption. I'm hibernating my PC (not laptot, so there's no batteries) and plug off the power cord. Then, after several days I can restore to the saved state because it was saved on disk.

What software  ? Like what I have open at the time?

I'll take the easy path and blame windows.

It all depends...for example, MS Office uses an incredible amount of system resources when it is open...the problem is when you close it, not all of those processes quit. They therefore remain in the cache, and block space...this is why a) you need to shut down your comp and B) you need to defrag every now and then. But then again, I am not sure about what you are running and the amount of system resources they take, you could just be overloading your processor, causing it to run hot and freeze up....I used to do that till I got a cooling pad for my laptop.

I just close my laptop to hibernate. I am too lazy to shut it down and hate waiting for it to load up.
