It's bad for the seller but google can't penalize you for any incoming links. They can only penalize you for who you decide to link to.

I guess its a penalty to pay for a link and not get any benefit :p
Either way, I tend to buy links that I can renew the subscription for. The problem with this offer is the expiration date. Once the benefits started kicking in (the page got PR and the link matured) it will be gone.

If a pure .edu link benefit for link development, I guess if you own an education site, it would help.

Btw, I didn't say buying link from .edu site to be a BH technique. But I meant it could be as bad as SEO when you get caught. There was someone tried to sell .edu links at another forum, thinking he could do this legitimately. Well he found out that he really couldn't do it, so he closed the offer.

I agree that it's up to sellers decision, but those who pursue WH should realize this could be as bad as BH is all I wanted to say, not a part of BH. I hope that cleared it out better.

If you simply buy a link for PR points, then any PR3 has the same value whether its from .edu or any other regardless of relecancy or what. PR points are passed easily unless Google recognizes a page to be link farm, so then .edu is not special as you think. But it could be a valuable link if you link to an educational site.

No obviously you don't understand what it is.

This is Unethical SEO. Search Engine Optimization techniques and methods are employes which fall outside of the guidlines issued by the Major Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. Implementation of this tyoe of Search Engine Optimization may provide short term gains for your site(s). If you are discovered as using these techniques you can be placed under a penalty by the Search Engine. ...
    www.oyster-web.co.uk/glossary.htm

The actual line between the two is quite thin, but, Black Hat SEO refers to things that are considered dark, or spammy, while White Hat SEO refers to "good" SEO. I determine Black Hat SEO as anything that, A. breaks any search engines rules, B. effects the users experience on the site for the worse, or C. shows different content to different user-agents.

Google is 100% against you buying links to benefit your rankings, it is an unnatural link.

I would say black hat is a bit more extreme then purchasing links, purchasing links falls into the middle grey hat territory.

It is not BLACK HAT SEO and it is NOT a myth. I can show first hand proof of this.

Check out yandy.com having top 3 serp for "lingerie" which is HUGE VOLUME! Before it was a lingerie site, it was the site for some type of computer launguage called Y and Y. Loads of computer science/engineering students put links to it on their school project pages. So did a lot of the Comp Sci departments at various schools.

Lets suppose for a second that it was 100% true that .edu links were given more authority. Do you really think Matt Cutts would come out and admit that???

    Wake UP!

I'd really have to see the research the domain to tell you. Can you PM it to me?

I am ready to BUY NOW.

How much to install my own blog?? ;)

I paid $50 twice to Tyler and was very pleased with what I got. I've got two pages with 4-5 links on pages with a PR4 (I think), and a PR6 (I'm sure). So to answer the question posed at the thread's start, I'm certainly fine paying $50 for a page with some PR from a college or government domain.

Rzvagelsky and Devin, I am interested, but $50 might be a bit high--unless I could include several links (15-20) in the content. I would need to know more details about it. But without knowing more for the 9 month timeframe, I would be happy to pay $25. Consider that an offer to you both. Let me know via PM.
