Has anyone had any luck with DMOZ?

If so, could you share some hints on being accepted by them? What is it that DMOZ wants?

was your site a blog or just a normal site?
absolute best category? how do you determine that?

I went through their categories and though that I picked the best one.

I know DMOZ is human handpicked, but is there any software that helps determening the best DMOZ category? Would be nice to have something like that.

In my case, I didn't do anything special at all. It's like I bought a lottery and I won. Trying to get in Dmoz could be a waste of time. It's not like the end of SEO game.

I submitted my site like last August and never heard back from them. I'm not sure if I should bother to try again or not since they said only submit your site once.

One thing I have noticed in DMOZ is that if there is link "Become Volunteer" towards bottom of the category that you are submitting your site to, then probably, no one is reviewing those links and so chances of your link getting approved are almost zero, unless you become an editor :)

I submitted two of my sites a few months before the "crash". I checked last week and saw that both of my sites are listed (and in the correct category!!). It is a good bet that the "crash" really set them back, so if you haven't heard anything for about 6-8 months, go ahead and re-submit. What are they going to do? Reject you?

Yeah, I tend to submit every two months until they accept the link. Like RH said, what's the worst they can do? Reject you?

Google Directory awfully looks like DMOZ. Ive heard that people still get in DMOZ but you have to get the most relevant category and follow the sumbission guidelines all the way.

For example, if I run a blog do I submit the url or the RSS?

    Just really confusing

try it first , if you are still having your site online one year later perhaps you will see it being listed on DMOZ

I think he meant to submit your sight now and wait. If you still have your site active a year from now, you might see it listed; if not keep submitting.
