Yes its true, but renewal 1 year is included in the transfer price and if you have 50 domains like I have I save about $150 and can transfer them to another registrar again next year.

I'm going to have to move my domains over to Moniker/NameCheap/Domainsite. DS seems to have the lowest transfer fee at $6.99, if any of you are interested. I'm planning on going with Moniker or NameCheap though as they provide top notch support (not that DS don't).

    [EDIT]
Anyone been able to login to RegisterFly? It says that my account doesn't exist!

It's much, much worse than that!

Entire businesses have, or are going, down the tubes because of this fiasco.

People have already lost domains because they weren't renewed and the resulting businesses - from web developers all the way down the line to the end-users whose businesses relied on the websites - are all going under. Lawsuits are about to start flying everywhere.

If you read this thread on Registerflies, you begin to get an idea of the scale and impact this is having.

    Some sample comments:-

kzpdesign - It really doesn't help us. I have two domains that have expired, both are for large clients of mine, of which I am about to loose both accounts because I cannot renew their domains, transfer their domains, or host their domains without modifying the name servers. It's not an extra $80 a month for hosting their site, it's their entire business - email, e-store, website, etc. that is down. Their website is a 1/5th of the business I do with each client. Aadd a couple zeros to that monthly amount and then you can realize what this is costing me and just 2 of my clients.

Dkraus - This is crap....you must excuse me but I have lost everything. I am a single mom of two. My husband left me with nothing five years ago, instead of giving up which I felt like doing I started my own company and have been sucessful for five years, supported my children FOR Five YEARS ON MY OWN. Registerfly has single handedly destroyed my business. Today I lost my last large client. They all walked due to what they say Is MY fault. I can not renew, transfer or host thier domains. These are million dollar companies that are well known and now the names have expired. I am now being sued by them. Well goodbye house, goodbye car, goodbye life! Thank RegisterFly.

ajmurphy1 - In my case, I also lost customers, and I also lost my business because of lost time (time that I could not afford to loose) and lost clients/income. My clients didn't (and still don't) care about going after RegisterFly. All they care about is resolving their problems. I was the one in direct line of fire when RegisterFly prevented renewals and my clients websites went down. And, as a result, I'm the one who - got fired! In my company, I am the one who took the fall for RegisterFly's actions (or lack of them).

Well, now that some of you are surprised, I hope I didn't make mistakes...
But so far, I didn't get charged.
I have unlock my reg domain.
I have requested a transfer in GD. GD sent me an email with some codes. Codes that I put in the GD transfer field. Then GD asked me the authorization code. You can find it on you domain page in RF, at the bottom when it is unlocked. I copied and paste it in GD. I got an email from GD waiting for RF green light. 2-3 days later, I had an email from RF wanting to confirm the change with a code again. I copied and paste that last code and checked the "Yes, I want to transfer bla bla..". Almost instantly, I had my domain in GD. Nothing regarding any fees...
    But I'll double check now...

EDIT: I had $13.04 in my RF account, and there are still there. And no charge from GD. Looks free so far.
However, I've seen that the domain in still in both acount, in RF AND GD !!!
But it has been done like 1 hour ago...Maybe the process need more time to make it disappeared from RF

I've moved domains to GD away from Registerfly and still had them appear on my Registerfly list for a couple of months.

For those of you still having trouble figuring out how to transfer your domains out of RF, MyDomain now links their transfer page to these step-by-step instructions. There's also a coupon on that page for a discounted transfer rate, but the one listed on Registerflies is better.

The same happened to me. They offered special prices for domains and I did register 3-4 domains through but now it end up in my account and could not withdraw. Very disappointing service.

    Who are you answering ?

If you did not pay, that is a mistake from GD. I emailed them some time ago and asked and they told me that it is not free.

Of course you can move them, its your domains, you decide.
You have to remove the privacy option at RF.

And to all of you that are transfering many domains from RF. Dont use the bulk tools for doing anything. It does not work good, it can tell you that the privacy option is off, but it is in reality still on and so on.

Heres more details on RegisteryFly I found today.. Gets worse the deeper you dig ..

http://www.icann.org/correspondence/registerfly-notice-of-breach-21feb07.pdf - Notice from ICANN to RegisterFly

    http://registerflies.com/official-statement-from-registerfly.html - Full story.

    best part ..

"A February 12, 2007 complaint was filed by UNIFIEDNAMES, INC. d/b/a
Registerfly and JOHN NARUSZEWICZ v. KEVIN MEDINA in the U.S. District Court
of New Jersey. It states that as of December 2006, roughly 200,000 domains
were registered on behalf of customers and that approximately 75,000 of
these customer domains were lost since January 2007, due to the actions of
the Defendant, which resulted in failure to pay the required registry fees.

The Plaintiff alleges that the Defendant wasted company money to pay for a
personal escort, rent on a Miami penthouse, personal credit card bills and
liposuction, in addition to withdrawing thousands of dollars from company
accounts for personal spending." - http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/ga/msg05960.html
