    During the weekend I plan to upgrade my blog to the latest version of wordpress 2.1.1.

    It is the first time I am passing through this stage so I am looking for step-by-step guides to upgrading from 2.1

    I would like to make a backup of data before upgrading to be extra sure.

    If someone can explain or can point a link please post it here. Thanks in advance. Including what not to do when upgrading.

    Yeah, just follow the link trevlar gave.You should be able to upgrade super quick since your already using the 2.1 branch of wordpress.
