I purchased a new computer with Vista. The first night I was loading the system up it failed to load. After consulting with a tech from Dell we finally figured out that the Windows Updates were causing the program to not load.

Since that time I have been very happy with Vista. It has a lot of unique features that I find quite refreshing. The speech recognition program is very good IMO. The video editing program is great since a untrained monkey could use it.

The only downside is waiting for certain software to add drives that are compatable with Vista. I figure by the time I understand all the functions available within Vista most of these issues will be worked out.

I'll be waiting for about a year until I know any problems are pretty much taken care of and drivers are being built better.

I just got a copy of Vista. Unfortunately, I only have 512MB of RAM on my PC and that's enough to run Vista. Will upgrade the hardware over the weekend.

cuz they knew they couldn't eff with windows!(windows won the suit but has to include 3party software etc.)
if osx is so good they why do new mac's come with windows?

Microsoft's chief executive Steve Ballmer said yesterday that forecasts for sales of the company's Vista operating system are "overly aggressive." Ballmer didn't provide specific sales numbers but, in a conference call with financial analysts, he said lower selling prices, limited new corporate sales and software piracy would combine to hold back Vista sales.

Nah, I would probably wait until SP2 of Vista before upgrading, and I have to get a new machine to boot. Vista's requirements specs are massive and my current PC is doing fine with XP SP2. Still, I would probably recommend it to those buying a completely new machine that has dual core cpu, 80 gb hd and 1 gb ram at least .. that should be fine :)

I keep looking at magazine reviews of Vista, and find myself asking what the big deal is?

The only thing that really bugs me with XP Pro, is that when you load dozens of new programs onto it, that it slows it up like hell, and becomes buggy.

Anyone know if Vista does anything to help that? eg isolates program code from normal use code, or whatever. So it retains its speed even if you install dozens of programs?

That is the only reason I would actually go buy an upgrade ie rather then just waiting for a new PC to have it on it.

From what I can see they keep going on about security. But I have never had any problems anyway. So frankly, who cares?

Flash Aero windows? Yawn. Is that really worth upgrading for?

Improved search Built In - Err ever heard of Google Desktop? Its free.

Someone care to tell me what the big deal is with Vista, because I really don't get it?

    don't bother:D

"We won't go five years again, I promise, between big Windows releases,"
    http://www.arnnet.com.au/index.php/id;7680622;fp;16;fpid;1

by the time they put out SP2, they would have rolled out another version of windows. meaning support for vista would stop by then:D

Never I could not accept Microsoft's End User License Agreement for XP
so Vista is completely out of the question.

And with over 500,000 pieces of malware out there waiting to attack windows machines I stick with Linux.

I've jumped over the "xp" generation as I've sticked to my good old Win 2000 pro :D that is ( still up now ) doing the job ( what I need ) just correct.. as they say.. if it's not broken.. then.. you know eh.. Dont fix it! So why change it...

But.. having pass a "generation" means I "should" get on this one thought or else I might be classified as a dinosorus in 1 or 2 years.. So I'll probably get vista sure but will let a year or so pass in order to get a stable one to run... Not really interrested in applying SP 1 to 25... So I'll buy the Version that will be labeled "Vista (whatever is the Pro/full version) Service Pack 50 Included" !!

I am pretty much in the same boat or feelings about vista. I to run XP and simply love it at the moment. Yet I need to upgrade and or get new computer before ever thinking into buying Vista. By than I am sure it would be the software installed on the computer and not XP.
