Why is my competitor above me?

Why does google have site "X" on the 1st page of results and site "Y" on the 4th page of results?

What is the difference that makes one site appear higher-up in the results page?

If I buy lots of PR 8 links, will my Web site move higher-up? What can I do to have my website move to the top?

Google thinks site X is more relevant than Site Y for whatever the search term was.

Yes, but WHY does google think site X is more relevant that site Y for a particular search term?

How can I make google think site Y is more relevant than site X?

you will need to perform optimization to your pages: on-page ( increase the density of the key terms, bold text, h1 tags,.... check tutorials on that) and off-page which is typically relevant link building. before buying text links try first to look for link exchange partners that might link to your page. To do search in google for : keyword add link
replace the keyword by the term you're targetting. try to submit to free directories.
hope this help and good luck

hmm, since the mods moved this thread to site review forum, I might aswell post my site and ask you guys to tell me how can I optimize my website for search engines.

My website is ArcadeMob.com. I would appriciate if you could comment on how I can achieve better results with search engines.

In order to compare the 2, we need site X as well.

I would appriciate any help at improving my rankings. I don't have a specific competitor in mind. But to give you an example, I just did a search now for "free online games" and websites such as http://www.freearcade.com/ , http://www.arcadetown.com/ and http://www.freeonlinegames.com/ are ranked much higher than I am. How can I come closer to them?

    After a quick glance.

Two things. One I noticed that it's a gamescript site... so that leads into the 2nd thing I noticed which is you need to make your links static and not the dynamic ones you've got going.

I was on the gamescript.net forum and there was at least one site on there that had a lot of SEO done. I'll see if I can find it.

Aren't there like a billion game sites on the net already? And using a turnkey script will make things even more difficult

You could ask on the GameScript forum, I know one user on the forum has converted his link to static instead of dynamic for SEO.

I don't see much text on page to index. Most of the top material appears to be graphics.

So you guys are saying the links should be static as in playgame_24.html? Should I just use mod-rewrite to fix that?

Are you saying alot of images is bad? I heard of something where images have text in them? Are you saying more text = better search rankings?

Any other ideas that would improve my search performance?

About images/little text, the website - www.coffeebreakarcade.com is the 1st result on google for the search term "arcade"

That website is almost all images and has alot less text that my website - www.arcademob.com

So what's the deal with that?

Why is www.coffeebreakarcade.com the 1st result for "arcade", is it because they have PR 6?

Search engines don't read text in images. Alt tags may help but I do not believe have the same weight as text.

Let me ask you this: why do you believe your site is better than theirs?

Well, comparing www.ArcadeMob.com to www.coffeebreakarcade.com, www.ArcadeMob.com has more games, is updated more frequently, is much more user friendly (meaning there are many options to enchance user experience), enables users to play games fast and quickly, and, in my opinion, has a much better design and look.

I don't see though how this is relevant to search engines?
