Possible adsense fraud

What happens if someone uses your adsense publisher id and put ads using it on some warez, porno or illegal site?

Anyone can do this easily and in that case your adsense account may be cancelled as ads are appearing on an illegal site which is against adense TOS?

    Any ideas on this?

this is one of the major flaws on the adsense system..nothing you can do about it though, most small publishers who get their pub-id stolen and then "exploited" usually get their account banned. google doenst like high maintanence accounts, they'll probably help you out if they can but truth is its easier to get rid of publishers who are more trouble than they are worth.

No, there are safeguards against that. If it was so easy, then we could see really high profile casulaties.

You get banned. It does happen. That's why it's a good idea to set up URL channels and if you notice any clicks coming from outside your channels report it to AdSense Support. Many an honest AdSense publisher has fallen foul of someone stealing their pub-ID.

    Hi,
I think this is a wonderful and useful question. You can view your impressions and clicks in your adsense account. If you receive more impressions than your average impressions per day or you can get impressions other than your top channels list, you can report the adsense team about your sites with your adsense ID. And also inform them that you are afraid that somebody is using your ID as you are getting more impression than your sites tend to receive...

Nice Question! Google take care of every mail you send.

Make channels, atleast url channels. Do not put any adsense code out of channels. And if you see some clicks out of channels then this may be probable reason. In such case, do write google telling about your all channels and urls.

    Google will solve the rest.

Edit: Oops this has been said above. lol

I always put my site and verified it through Webmaster Tools from Google before putting any adsense on it. If I'm consistent doing it to all my sites at least I can argue if someone decide to mess with my publisher id.

    Hope this help.

Shade, I am not sure what you mean here.. can you explain a little more? which webmaster tools are you referring to?

and how would verifying your sites through webmaster tools be insurance against hanky panky going on with pub id

IMO, you're wasting your time thinking about crazy ideas like this. Overall just be a nice person, and you won't have problems with people trying to sabotage you.
If you're that paranoid about adsense, why even admit you use it? Might as well not tell the search engines you have a site either, because someone could see adsense on it and maybe even click an ad! oh no! Just focus on building content and traffic, and follow the simple rules, and everything will be okay.

No need to put you id on illegal site. just save adsense java code as normal html upload to somewhere then refresh & click many times. you account will be banned from Google. :(

it's very hard to protect because your id can copy very easy by view html source. I think it's not fair if we will get banned from the reason like this but this is a fact. ;)

They should add an option in AdSense panel to define which domains are allowed to display your ad. It would solve this issue.

yes i agress with SET...they shud add an option in the adsense panel where publishers can define sites URL using thier account and thier adsense ads shud only be displayed on these certian sites....

or y dont they hide publishers ID in the code?? or encrypt it or do sumting liek this...im sure its not that difficult for google to solve this issue...

IMO google has not been recieving significant amount of complaints pretaining to a fraud like this unless they would have dun sumting bout it.. :)

Yes, a list of domains that are yours and then Google will simply discount clicks from others. Excellent idea!

I do think that if you are making enough money, google will notify you first, before taking serious action.

This the main thing that i always afraid of :(. Some could just simply paste our publisher id in ilegal site or put it in a legal site but then give a massive clicks on it :(.

That is a good idea. Have you suggested it to Google? Maybe we all should so they actually consider it.
