Bought Linux Hosting - If I change to Windows - Is there any chance of loosing PR

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by GAdsense, Feb 17, 2007.

    Hey Guys,
I bought Linux hosting due to faster performance and security. I got to know that I cannot run asp on this hosting which I was planning to as I am having contacts of people who code in asp.

Rather coding in PHP is the solution, Is it easy to learn PHP? Is there any problems we face in this language?

Anyways my main question is suppose I don't think this one is the correct solution for me and If I change my hosting to windows then Is there any chance of loosing my site Page Rank?

I don't have much idea on hosting site but I think changing nameservers might take up to 72 hours and if in between the crawlers visits the site then ....

Would like to hear your opinion, Thanks!

Page rank is not platform dependent. Using Windows or Linux hosting doesn't affect your website pagerank.
If your site is down during search engine crawler visit it may have negative impact on your websites ranking.

But I don't think, it will drop your PR. My two websites were down for about a month, but they still have same PR 4.

    Quoted for truth.

To avoid downtime, rather than changing nameservers, add your new host's nameservers as the third & fourth nameservers. Then as they propagate, you can delete your old host's nameservers (first and 2nd).:)

I will be using ready made PHP scripts but still I am facing problems in thinking about installing it ... :) Need some detailed how to guides (I think it is one time effort to setup) - Will see if I can manage otherwise I will shift to plain html or will change the hosting.

Is there any PHP expert who can guide?

Seems like a nice solution if it is possible.

    Thanks! :)

I think you are right as sometime back I was curious to learn any language because I was almost having no skills and seen ruby on rails as the easiest and best. Even digg.com is built on ROR.

Anyways, Is there any B&F way to learn PHP?
    Best & Fast ;)

At home? Then trial & error is the key to good results. How fast? Depends on each individual I think..

Hey GAdsense, thanks for rep. If you wanna learn PHP, download PHP scripts from Hotscripts.com and download manual from PHP.net. I think these things will help you.

When I was learning PHP, I did the same. Download some scripts, throughly read the code and thats it.

GAdsense, you may try this http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html
Install it on your PC and you'll get a localhost server where you can then experience with PHP. It is an easy installer of Apache + PHP + MySQL server.

You could start by installing easy scripts and learning their code. A good way to do this is by keeping PHP.net open and then typing www.php.net/somefunction to access information on any particular PHP function. Examples usually come along with theory, so you might find it useful.
