the domain extension doesn't really relate. A link is a link, if there isn't any extra tags on the link like nofollow, then google will still read it as a link.

    All have the same value.

Although there was a rumour going around the SEO circle years ago about .edu .gov and .mil naturally having more authority based on extension only, but it got shown to be untrue after testing.

    A link is a link.
It has nothing to do with the extension of the domain.

It was on Seochat forums in 03-04 so finding it may be quite difficult as i obviously don't remember the thread title after so long.

It involved registering some virgin .coms and applying different backlinks from .gov and .edu domains as well as .coms, also making virgin .gov and .edu PR0 pages and providing a backlink to the fresh .coms

Basically the result showed there was no noticable difference in SERP or PR between the .gov and .edu and .mil domains compared to a .com .net or .org

The illusion really comes from these .gov etc domains naturally being an authority site, so they hold more weight because of the website itself and not because of domain extension.

It doesn't matter. You should be worried if you get a big number of (not so related) links from a local country domain because Google might boost you in local Google and you'll decrease in google.com.
For example if most of your links come from .de (German) domains you might experience a decrease in google.com and boost in google.de

As what has been mentioned by the above posters, a relevant and quality link is what we need. Domain extension will not matter :)

If your .info website is good, Google will rank it good.
P.S. Why you replied in 4 years old thread?

A link is a link, no matter of their extensions or they are nofollow/dofollow. The only matter is their rank.

Darn, don't see the post date!
