I run http://www.rockmusicforums.info, and it uses phpBB. I have turned off sessions for Guest users so that search engines can spider it.

Is there anything else I should do?

There's a much more extensive SEO mod for phpbb: able2know.com/forums/about15132.html

I haven't tried it, but others have recommended it.

able2Know is great for the onpage, there are better ones to add for the mod_rewrite of the URLs. Best to get the URLs to have keywords from the title in them.

I think I have my forum pretty well SEO's... using a mod rewrite, nofollow tags for all external links (that forum posters have posted out), killed almost all sessions... it was a bear to get it this way... but it works now...

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Does anyone know of a better mod_rewrite phpBB mod than the able2know one? I'd like for each page name to be a bit descriptive, containing the topic or something.

The main thing is make SURE that googlebot does not see a SID. It can't seem to handle that, it crawled my phpbb index 6000 times. I kid you not. Stupid... STUPID Googlebot.

I've got session id's turned off for all guest users, since I don't allow guest posts anyway.

I just thought it might be a good idea to have everything as a static html page as opposed to a dynamic php URL with an id in it.

I'm not sure how Google handles dynamic URLs nowadays.

When you say you've turned off session id's for guests, is this done in the admin or did you do it by editing the sessions.php file?

How have you done that? - other than do a mod rewrite, which I thought you were looking for. Turning off guests posting doesn't mean that session ids are turned off - just thought I should clarify that.

    Check this tutorial out:
    http://www.devside.net/web/config/phpBB

It's just a matter of editing the sessions.php file.

Yes, when I edited sessions.php guest users lost their session id's, therefore losing their ability to post.

    That's not the problem though.

I'm just looking for a mod_rewrite mod for phpBB other than the able2know.com one. Their mod does not create descriptive file names.

I think that whatever you have done so far is quite enough and it will spider it. You have turned off sessions of guest user, that is a good idea.
