Apparently someone registered Google.de before Google did. The registar did/does not check its registerations and that is why someone was able to register the domain Google.de. But after Google did a check realised what had happen, reported the incident and got the domain back in their hands.

It appears that the .de/Germany registar let ebay.de be registered by someone else and not the company.

You may follow up with more info at Spiegel.de

So do you think that the person who registers such names is kidnapping such companies names? or do they have a legit hold on such a name?

Actually that guy stole the domain by exploiting a flaw in the German domain registration system, he didn't have a "legit hold" on it.

    IMO,
First come first serve. If you have a daughter named Mercedes and you happen to buy that domain. Why should the big corp. push you over and get it? What happens is the big Corporations are dictating how things are to be run ...... in their favor.

Yes I agree. But if there is a copyright agreement that extends via throughout the world yes I would have to agree with Google. But if there is no Copyright with it in every country. Than I would have to say Google needs to step up and pay out. But I don't think it was in this case. Sad to see or know. But it did not say if the person was compensated or otherwise. Or if there was any copyright infrigment in this country either.

Obviously you didn't understand the article. Otherwise read it through yourself. If you did, skip your unthoughtful comment and don't post your comment. It is for those who did not know and is a news worthy comment/post. If you knew and didn't care, skip over it. Others may not have known.

Ok Mr. Smartass, let's have at it.

What does that have to do with copyright or with someone having any "legit hold" over the domain name? Stop being such a racist* and get your head out of your ass. You didn't read the article and now you are taking your stupidity out on me, which is hilarious.

    * = "Obviously you didn't read the article either because you are German. You are narrow minded like the rest of your decades of forefather's"
(Your comment for your red rep.)
