No. In fact it may penalize your site.

Not sure about that. Numerous home pages have links at or near the top, or in the text, then repeated (often in fairly small print) at the foot of the same page.

Do you know on good authority that this can incur a penalty for the site?

Increasing the amount of links to the same page to the subpage does not help the page rank. The more links you have, the more chance you will penalized. That doesn't mean you can't links to the same subpage more than once, it just means it won't help the page rank.

Don't worry about a penalty...I have 3 links to my home page on some parts of the site:

    1. Logo

    2. Header

    3. Footer

Although, I do specifiy "nofollow" for the logo image link.

Right. I didn't mean to emphasize the penalty part of linking more than once to subpages. I just meant that if your idea was to increase your subpages by linking to them numerous times from the homepage, then you will be penalized.

Just keep your navigation simple and natural to the human eye, with search engines in mind - you'll be fine.

Go ahead and do it then. I'm going to lol all over your face when you get penalized.

I've tested this before on one of my experimental sites. Google catches on to it and jacks your SERPs. Why? Not because of PR, but mainly because Google's spiders give weight to your internal link's anchor text. Abusing that earns a penalty.

Is this your 3rd theory of the day...outbound links from your site transfer PR back to your site? For your next trick are you going to slam a revolving door?

Adequate testing in SEO requires far more than one site. It takes many sites in a controlled scenario, with careful consideration of all variables before assuming the data is anything more than indicitive.

Evidence is not fact, and presenting evidence you have of penalties is great, but presenting it as fact is not a very good idea.

Personally, I have never witnessed penalties from linking 2-3 times to a subpage. In fact I've seen it spread PR very effectively in several scenarios.

    1. Testing and evidence from one site is far better than a shot in the dark theory. Don't you think?

    2. Once again, of course 2-3 internal links won't hurt you. I clarified that. Twice.

But then again, evidence is not a fact according to you. So you have no support either then... right?

No man this is true, I mean you need to test on your site how it will affect you...You see I have seoElite software like a year or two and now with having it you get free teleseminars with some of the best internet marketers, so I was listening one of them and he was mentioning this thing, it got my attention, because it makes sense..if you are linking to the authority site like go daddy its a good recource isnt?? and I think it may be useful to your website visitors..Google likes it and sometimes you can get a reward for it..
