Pagerank displayed on site a good idea?

Discussion in 'Reviews' started by KowDot, Feb 10, 2007.

What are the pros and cons of displaying pagerank on a site?

I've found 3 sites that provide a free service, they are:
    http://pr.blogflux.com
    http://www.prchecker.info
    http://www.pagerank-check.info

Anyone has any experience with these that they would like to share? The 2nd in the list seems to display a broken image link if PR0 which isnt helpful since new pages will start PR0.

    Thanks

I would leave it on your site if you have a high PR.. if you have 0, lol don't do it. But yes, it's good for advertising (especially if you're offering link sales). It's probably better to place it in an "advertise with us" page rather than the whole site

if u use wordpress you can use my plugin :p google page rank

The Pros : when having a pr 0 ... its like ur still new when having a high page rank its like ur more famous and people in some way can trust your site ...

i dont see any Cons because u dont need to hide it (u cant) anyone with google toolbar can know it .

MONG : u have the best page rank checker ;) (http://www.digpagerank.com/)

Thanks everyone. I was going to put it on the homepage plus each of the category pages. I agree it wouldn't be a good idea to display PR0 lol - it be nice if I could check the PR in code before displaying - I'll have a think about how to do this, any ideas?

    http://www.digpagerank.com/ is pretty cool - bookmarked ;)
    Pagerank Pro looks nice too.

Overall it looks like it might be a good idea for my site since I'm dealing with links.

As your PR tool grows more popular, a host of headaches begin.

Trust me, we run the Blog Flux PR looker and it gets absolutely hammered to bits.

probably only 10% of internet users understand PR, so it is pretty useless. For advertisers that is a different thing.

it's not good idea for the sites that you will use their banners or buttons :D because you will give one way link to them and you will share your pr and hit with them;)

It is always a good idea to show PR (4 or above) on our pages since most general users still do not have google PR toolbar installed..

Lots of view points here, so lots to think about, thanks. I've coded the ability to show/hide pagerank in the next release, so I'll hide the icon until PR 4 has been reached. That way advertisers will see the benefit of advertising on my site. I'm providing links so I think it's a good idea for my site.

Please could someone explain this further since I don't understand, thanks.

only if you are selling links...regular users don't care about toolbar PR and it doesn't affect your rankings one bit

after reading this post i threw up a live PR icon and an Alexa badge.

To internet 'experts' or advertisers, they will know what they are looking at.. for 'average users' (the vast majority of my visitors) it looks like something "important" .. cant hurt.. unless the Alexa badge slows down the load times of the page..

Most people that care about PR have the toolbar installed. I'd say it is nearly pointless to display it on your site. It just takes up real estate that can be used for better purposes.

These tools will give some of your PR to the tool supplier:D
They are not for free! - putting them on your site will give a backlink to the provider of this tool.

Every time I visit a site that's bragging about their pagerank (good or not) I just think it's incredibly lame. If people care about your pagerank (such as advertisers possibly) they'll either have the toolbar installed, or they'll look it up.
