Caught another one! (thief)

So I was just about to hit the hay for the night. I go out front to have a smoke and I catch a kid in my neighbors car with a flashlight.

He tried to run, but the cops got him.

This is my second catch! The last one wasn't too long ago - I caught a guy stealing my mail at 5:00am a few weeks ago.

As soon as I saw this guy, I grabbed a cordless and called 911. He apparently was a little slow on the uptake because I stood in the middle of the street describing him as he slowly tried to creep away from the car. Then he tried to hide behind a truck, but I just sat their and chitchatted with the 911 lady and told her exactly where he was hiding because I could see his giant shadow showing up on my neighbors garage door.

Just before the cops show up he takes off like a bat out of hell down the street. He went right instead of left, which basically means that he trapped himself in my neighborhood. He gets a night in jail, but apparently all he got was a pair of sunglasses and a few quarters.

I feel a little vindicated, because I've had my car broken into a few times (lost a sattelite radio), my wife had her purse stolen out of the car INSIDE our garage in broad daylight, and I'm pretty sure that somebody's been stealing my search engine rankings because my adsense rev. is way down this month .

Another nice catch by nevetS. I read your other thread about that mail box thief and you didn't call the cops that time but this time lol. Did you kick his but* (*=t) before handing over to police

 

maybe time to move to a less crime friendly place?

That's nuts! That's good that you caught him, I know the sickening feeling of waking up to a missing vehicle

 

I hate car thieves. Someone stole my leather jacket and my favourite wallet out of my car a few months ago.

Think they should all be lined up and shot!

 

Seriously you either live in a very rough neighbourhood, or a very nice neighbourhood

 

You shouldn't leave those things in a car.

My advise: Keep in a safe place your adsense password or your neighbours are going to replace your bank account with theirs.

Anyway, if I smoke outside my house, I'd have people coming up to me and asking for one. He must live in a good neighborhood.

 

LOL @MorgansMom and soju - I'm one of a dying breed out here. Gas station clerks even make comments about smoking sometimes - as I'm buying cigarettes from them.

I don't live in a house like Shawn or anything, but it is a golf course community that's just a few years old. The thing is that there is a freeway entrance right down the hill and our neighborhood offers one of the easiest getaway routes for miles around. I've got another baby on the way, so a move is out of the question short term, but I'll be moving back to OC by the end of the year if my home value remains stable.

Both guys I've caught are upper middle class white kids. I guess having options doesn't mean that you'll take advantage of them.

Wow, good job. Crime really is becoming a problem these days. Makes me happy to live in a semi-rural area for now. Hope i don't have your luck when i move into the city here before long!

 

that's why i LOVE SO MUCH Portugal and my hometown. Lived for 10 years in Lisbon (Cascais) and was terrible. Quite my job, came back home to countryside and guess what: i'm a new man.
