Just came across a site I was looking to buy and saw this messed up ad placement (http://www.freepowerboards.com/test/test-forum-1.html). According to him it's fine but I don't see how it's possible. Basically he's making the ads look like it's a forum topic so people click it.

I've emailed YPN to ask before I bought it but no response, any ideas?

Yaa i seen that on so many forums these days, i am guessing its legal as long as its not clicksor , they got some real gay rules.

    Cheers

    daniel07,

What are you basing that off of? It's a matter of buying the site or not so I'd like to be 100% sure, and YPN doesn't seem to reply.

I honestly don't know what are you talking about sir. First you are reporting the site with possible violation, and secondly you want to buy site. Sir, you will need to explain. Thanks.

It's not his site, he's wondering if it's in violation of the rules because he is interested in buying the site.

....it's not that hard to understand.

I've seen a few sites do that. I have also seen a few sites use the ad unit to make it look as if it is a part of the main navigation menu. It will help the sites get a higher CTR, but at the same time it will also mislead their visitors.

    --IMPORTANT --

I was alerted to this thread by several users who were worried that we may have intentions of selling our company.

I'd like to start off by saying we have not talked to the above person about any buyout.

If you continue to jump about net spreading these non-truths we will be forced to take legal action for libel and defamation of our corporate image. Our users love the way we run our services, if they wrongly believed that we were selling that could harm our business.

As for the ad placement. You are welcome to PM me and I will provide you with the contact information of our account manager.

DigitalPoint has been notified of this thread and our feelings about it.

I think it's legal. I have a friend who does it on his boards and he called Yahoo to check. You just have to make sure you label it as a sponsor.

Hm, that's weird. If chris has YPN's permission, though, I guess it's fine.

So it may be fine with regard TOS .... but won't these kind of tricks result in 'poor quality traffic' of the kind that gets you banned? Low conversions for the advertiser maybe? just wondering

It's pretty clear and obvious in any cases that they are not running this "live".. Does'nt it look obvious to you that this is up just for testing purpose?

I wonder why some people needs to be destroying folks like that for no reason.. anyhow.. guess that's how this world is eh...

    Too true..
Always hoping for a community that helps, not kills.. A community that gives a hand, not a hit in the back..
A community that supports business ideas, wouldn't that be a perfect place for us to be in, just dreaming :)

Actually, it's not smart at all. It's smart, if you are targeting 1 or 2 year olds though, I gotta give you that.

The ads are in no way supposed to look like CONTENT. There must obviously be a line between content and ads. I don't mean line like this; ------------, what I mean is "obvious difference" if I may? But whatever. You got my opinion though. ;)
