Why So Many Webmasters In India?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Kirby6, Jan 25, 2007.

This isn't a racial question or anything, I just really never learned why there's so many webmasters in India. It seems everywhere there's a "India Directory" or "SEO India Tips" or something like that, and it seems like 1/2 the webmasters out there speak in broken English.

So a simple explanation is all I'm looking for, why so many in India?

1.) Computer access increasing, and it is cheap.
2.) Rate of rupee to $
3.) Availability of cheap labour to assign work and make profits.

Yes, labor is extremely cheap when you outsource to India. The support should always be considered though... when you can't understand them... they can't support you or your product. That's just my personal experience from India outsourcing.

    I've had the same experience.
Since then I've always been sticking to US labor, be it a bit more expensive.. its worth it in the end.

There are 1,100,000,000 Indians - every sixth person on this planet is an Indian.

There would have been many Chinese webmasters on DP too, but language and regulations are keeping the numbers down.

Rupee to dollar conversion must be a top reason, I mean someone in India could sell there DP sig space and make a couple hundred $ a month which is 5x times more than the average Indian makes working a job over there.

They are over 1 bilion people that's why :))
But not the quantity is important is the quality ... (for exemple at Microsoft the first are the indians (over 1 bilion population) but second as programers are Romanians (my people we are only 23 milion people see the proportions :) ))

Just my opinion (i'm not very good with all this india outsiourcing most of indians "doing freelancing" don't know what they are doing not really very good at doing what they where ascked for exemple me i'm outsourcing to countrys in the East European part and Rusia (the rusian and ukrainian programers rock + romanians :) ) )

India have a huge concentration of IT, Bangalore is the silicon valley of India of tons of US based companies investing and migrating their personal there because it's cheaper.

Personally I had a bad experience with an Indian programmer on getafreelancer.com, he took 2 weeks and did not delivered results. I know must not judge them for a single action but the fact is that i think they are overrated, when we talk about work effectiveness.

Compared to developed economies like US and EU, internet is hardly used in India. India has only 3.5% internet penetration.. and an internet user base of 40 million people...which is little more than 37 million of UK.

    Source.

I would like to see those 40 million users divided according to the age group of the users. That might be another factor.

Very high population. High education levels, esp in tech.

    You are funny

Sometimes stating something, right there, proves it wrong :) This seems like one of those times. Not that I am implying that we (Indians) are "less" intelligent, but I do not specifically think we are "more" intelligent either :)

True. All humans are born with the same levels of ''intelligence''. Its their social settings and the way they want to use it which creates the levels of difference:)

Once I was in China and all people on the street looked me like I would be alien, because I'm white and very tall...It was a strange, but funny experience:D
