I just read an email saying that they're offering geotargeting now.... does this mean we can start sending them international traffic?

Don't be making a fool out of yourself. How in the hell would "I am offering geotargeting" mean "please send me international traffic"?

If you know some little php or perl - easily done !

Their ads always showed up internationally, they don't screen international traffic.

geotargeting does not mean international geotargeting. So unless they specifically say they accept international traffic, they don't.

I saw YPN ads while using South Korean/Garman/Japanesse proxy servers. Maybe they just filter out international clicks or they keep it.

If they are going to launch globally it makes sense to show ads worldwide (even though clicks don't count). The more people who have heard of YPN, the easier they will get publishers and advertisers when they need to sign them up. When they launch somewhere new they will be in a chicken and egg situation if they don't have a whole stack of people just waiting to be part of it

    Just to summarize :
    1. ads will be displayed for all traffic
    2. publisher will keep earning from US traffic only

    Question :
    3. will advertiser pay for any clicks generated by international traffic ?
    4. My bet is advertisers will pay for any clicks, but Yahoo will keep the earning for international traffic.

I don't think they do keep the money. That would piss off a lot of advertisers don't you think?

I don't think such a reputable company would make such a dumb move. It would tarnish their reputation.

I doubt they will ever do that.
Then come the question, why the hell they still display the ads internationally ?
Well, if the advertisers do not need to pay international traffic, now is really a good time to advertise with yahoo for free.

Wow, YPN finally makes a motion forward instead of standing still like a pair of dumb bricks as per their usual m.o. :D

Focus on what the text says, not what you want it to hear.

I didn't recieve any email? Does this mean that we don't have to geotarget our web sites anymore and you can't be banned for international traffic? Do you think I should take geotargeting off my web site if I already have it on? Does this mean that yahoo is currently counting international clicks everyday and are jsut going to adjust the payment at the end of the month?

Are there any articles any where about this?

    I didn't receive the e-mail also, and I'm confused.
Is the e-mail saying, now you can display their ads to international traffic, and not get kicked out? Or are they saying, you still can't?

Nothing has been said about this on their blog, nor did I get a call (like I usually do). So for now, this is just a bunch of "inside rumor" as far as I am concerned.

Based on my own finding :

    1. Once upgraded to a newer account, yahoo overture will by default target US/Canada. You need to choose asia/africa/australia/europe to target them.

    2. I believe a large percentage of advertisers are unaware of the above point.
So you'll be very much affected if you have a large pool of international traffics. (and yes they will pay for click by international traffic)

I would think this is the start of Yahoo revolution and they will open YPN for international publisher in a few months time, well, maybe by end of 2007 or maybe when they have more publishers.
