So far I only buy domains with intention to develop them. But who know? If I received a good offer :D

    I don't visit DP that often but once I'm here I can't stop! :p

Wow. You guys really scare me... I think at least a day whether or not to buy a domain. Even though, the last time I bought a domain was just a spontaneous idea and I ordered one immedeately. I hope "domain-buying" won't turn into hobby or addiction for me :)

Sorry but I have a problem with domain addicts - people that buy domains and dont use them for much.

When i try and buy a decent domain for a site i want to work hard and develop and find its just parked and not being used kind of annoys me.

    Still, life goes on!!

If you really want a domain, simply email the owner and give him a decent offer, I am sure, he will sell it to you (if they themselves don't plan to develop it)
This is the profit he deserves, of thinking of the name before you. ;)

Like Shoemoney said - thats how it all starts :)

I have been buying domains since 7 - 8 years now and it took me a long time to realize that 99% of the domains I was buying were junk stuff. And I was an addict - bought a few every day, owned thousands of domains. I was not even making any money but actually losing quite a bit, even maxing out my credit cards.

Then around 3 years back I joined dnforum and started interacting with some other well know domainers and got to learn how to evaluate a 'premium domain'. Since then, I've done just fine. I cut down on my addiction and junked all my useless domains. I also started buying good domains from resellers at dnf, np etc. Sold some premium ones like Retrovert .com, Qualcomm .co.uk, 2345 .com etc. and basically made enough money off domains to quit my day job and concentrate on building an online business - which is what I always wanted to do.

SO my advice to you would be - dont worry, what you are going through, many people have already gone through before. Just try and learn from other more experienced members (like Shoemoney), ask questions, admit your mistakes and learn from them and move on.

If you need any help always feel free to drop me a PM.

And btw, all those domains you listed in your original thread are junk imho :)

    Cheers!

Oh.. im addicted, but I wouldn't really call it an addiction... more of a way to make money in things you are interested in.

I came to DP in aug of '06 and now I must have close to 300 domains! Before that I had 3

Since coming here, iv basically cut my full time job by 3/4 and am making enough to live off of my online ventures.

Domain wise, I probably buy anywhere up to 20 a week, at least 2 or 3 if it's a slow week :(

Most of the domains I buy are either
    A) Premium in some sense, age, name etc.
    B) High PR value
    C) High traffic value

Funny thing is, im going to be in a mess when I go to renew them all!
So I get them all renewed for 2 years when iv got the cash in my pocket ;)

I also consider myself addicted but I am slowly improving the kind of domains I am buying these days. Always think of new development ideas and swear to execute them but guess long work hours of my regular job kind of kill it most of the time.
I hope to slowly move to self sponser zone soon like some of you guys :) .

I think the biggest issue I face is how to sell some of the better domains which may be useful to end buyer. Sedo is useful but too crowded. I never tried afternic and not sure if their auction style is better than sedo. I even tried contacting some of propective buyers based on market but feel they may be ignoring my queries considering it as spam, alas some day....
Any ideas on what is working best for you on this front will be highly appreciated.

DP is nice and better for doing business compared to some other forums IMHO.

I always managed to confuse myself on this, If the domain do have history traces in archive.org but was dropped in between (so whois information shows only the recent
registeration) does it kill all value of age of the domain so is it still considered aged domain.

Nope. I have a purpose to buying domains. To achieve my goal. It's partly achieved right now.

Some idiot asked me recently "why would you want to renew the domains?" and then said "I will never renew domains because it will cost so much money."

I say "if that's your purpose, why buy them in the first place?"

I am going to keep all of my domains because they all serve a common purpose for me.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

    Col :)

Yes the true age is when it has not be dropped and registered again.

If a domain was regged in '99 and you picked it up in '05, it's only considered 1 yr old... i guess 2 now :)
