Site Title Changes To Just a Lower Case Keyword in SERPs, What?

Has anyone else noticed this in the last couple of days? The title for our website, has completely changed in the Yahoo SERPs, to just our main keyword...and it's typed in all lower case letters. What the heck is this? You can't even see our company name anymore.

It's not only our site... I have seen lots of other sites.

I can't tell you why, but I can tell you that you aren't crazy. I've seen this with my site as well. Today it seems to be back to normal, for me at least.

    Hey,

Thanks for the reply... yea, well - it has been like this on our site for a week now. Anyone else know what is causing this? It appears that the keyword used as the title is the one that is most often linked to your site via anchor text.

    Thanks.

I've seen it too. We are ranking #1 for the phrase that it is happening with.

Finally... some people starting to wake up... can someone find out what the heck is going on? This is more than lame... is there a way to contact Yahoo about this issue?

    Thanks.

Yahoo was doing the same thing to our site. The title was just "chat" which looked awful. However, we were ranked pretty well. Today, we are down about -40 spots. What the heck has yahoo done? dropped us off the map.

    Happening on Google too:
Here's an interesting case study if any of you want to have a look:
    http://www.firstpagefitness.com/blog/2007/01/17/yahoo-not-the-only-search-engine-to-lower-case-title-text/

It's Google lowercasing one version of a canonical URL and not the other. Google has most certainly crawled the lowercase version because the new title is being displayed.

It alerted me to a few problems that have since been fixed or are in the process of being fixed, but I'm still unsure as to why both search engines would have such similar issues in the same time period.

    Rusty,

It's great news! Yes, also... I can assure you, the lower case keyword titles came from external anchor text. Trust me on that. :) I am positive.
