Can I just confirm that Royalty Free means you can use images as much as you want as long as you're not selling the images?
I wouldn't say that is necessarily the case. Often "Royalty Free" doesn't give you he authority to use the images in certain mediums (like a printed flyer) and many times they restrict you from using the images as part of a logo, etc. Basically it means you do not need to pay to use the image so long as you don't break whatever usage guidelines they may have in place.
An example of this would be istockphoto.com. If you read their content license agreement you will see the allowed and prohibited uses of their royalty free images. You will need to seek the agreement from wherever you are seeking images but you can review the 'prohibited' section of the URL above to see what is commonly allowed and prohibited.
Thanks tflight. Problem is I'm looking for pictures of Premiership football players which I'm finding very difficult at the moment. Let me know if you know of any resources.
A bunch of good stock photos can be found on www.sxc.hu, the majority of which have no restrictions. Don't know if they have football players, but they might Josh
The press association bought this company http://www.empics.com they probably have the best pics, although Im guessing not cheap.
Thanks guys, Think I might have to go and take the pictures myself lol. There's just nothing on the net. Maybe I could get fans to send me photos they've taken.
Why not search for fan sites and see if they offer pics for downloads? Maybe check with official fan clubs?
Someone I know was sued after using a Royalty Free photo. I don't want to list specifics but you can PM me if you like Weir. Basically they used one in a commercial venture (it was a personalized product). The case was dropped when they used a more generic picture but it has opened my eyes to what Royalty Free really means.
Yeah I've just read a reply on another forum saying that Royalty Free does not mean that it's free and there are usually a lot of regulations. Please PM me with the details as I'm sucking all this info in at the moment.
Email the footballers you want pictures of (their official sites). Some may let you use a photo to help their self promotion. Tell them that you will mention where the pic come from and how to get to the official site etc.. As long as you are not discrediting they may be happy to help out.
