    joe_mat,

it depends on what your site is about. if you have MySpace layouts sites, or ring tone sites, then forget it... as long as you use your imagination and people skills, and some "connections", you will manage to grab some links. your site MUST be link worthy, and ingenuity is key in obtaining that link.

New fish in the ocean? Link Exchange with .gov and .mil sites - haha.

.Edu is obtainable - make friends with some friends in college or university - ask them to build a page and put an anchor link to your site.

.gov - achievable - use your contacts, have amazing content, worthy for a government site to link you.

.mil - do you sell guns? you got contacts with the qaeda? are you on most wanted list - you probably will get a BL.

Matt Cutts said that Google doesn't treat .edu and .gov websites any differently from any other website. I doubt that any other search engines do either. Some will happen to have a high PageRank, but that's only because they get linked to as authority sources.

Search forums and blogs with .gov and .edu. Then post comment and sign links.

    Matt cutts is misleading you.

Just check results for : buy viagra and it is all spam from edu sites. Why? Because Google gives it more credibility.

Who to believe, matt cutts or my own eyes?

Its easy if you use Google to find old and editable .edu sites :) I wont tell you the exact way to do it...it'll spoil the fun :p

EDIT: I've been getting A LOT of PMs. Please dont PM me if you're expecting me to tell you how to do this for free. Its fairly easy if you know what kind of sites that are editable and what search commands you should use.

    Quote from forum title:
"Discuss how you can build links for your website(s). This is not for link exchange requests."

hmm why would a .gov, .edu, .mil exchange links with you when you clearly can't read? Although maybe a .edu would be appropriate....

They only reason why gov and edu backlinks are better is because these tend to be good quality, looked after sites with related content and quality backlinks from other sites.

i think you should forget it if you have adult, proxy, directory, gamers, webmasters, myspace, file hosting, arcade tyoe of websites.

Unfortunatley, most of the DP users who own websites, own atleast one of the above.

Just so you know. Im in the US Navy and I have access to .mil websites.

It seems to get abused some but according to webmaster guidance for .mil sites the only authorized links we are able to have on the site is other .mil sites. You pretty much have to get permission from congress to put up any other links (not true, but close). That is if you go the route of asking permission instead of just doing it.

A friend and I used to run an electronic music event website which ended up linked on a .gov site on some kind of anti rave campaign associating our site as a place for people to look for events where you can buy and use drugs at. Something like that...
