In days gone by I relied on HodgedUp to tell me what whacky American foods were but his continued abstinence from this forum leaves me high and dry.

So, we're sitting down flicking through the channels and "I bet you will" comes on with fairly standard student antics. Until some poor schmuck gets paid $50 to drink 3 bottles of corn syrup - he couldn't and it came back out GREEN.

So, how are you meant to use this stuff? it looked evil!!!

Corn Syrup is used in just about everything. They probably put it in crack cocaine, heroin, and meth to make people addicted. :D :D

I've got tons of recipes that call for it, but I never use it. It always gets stuck to the bottom of my cupboard, then when you try and take the lid off your hands get all sticky. I hate that!

What the hell happened to HodgedUp anyway? He rocked.

Its in everything from alcohol to beer, to soda...everything... but its basically the base for most flavors you taste in liquids... the companies apply their flavors to the syrup and then mix with soda/water/carbonation and you have a drink.... its in a ton of crap...

Corn syrup is a sweetener. In many countries, and in North America in particular, it is used as the primary sweetener in soda pop and as the foundation for many syrups used by the confectionary and food industry.

Golden syrup and corn syrup are interchangeable. Golden syrup is made from cane sugar instead of corn. Some people do use corn syrup on pancakes . . . but I use 100% pure maple syrup.

corn syrup is also what they use to make High Fructose Corn Syrup - HFCS -- this is in most sweet foods, bread, soda, candy, "healthy" bars and cereals -- is basically will prevent the body from feeling full -- ever wonder why you can drink so much soda in one sitting?? If you are trying to lose weight easiest thing to get rid of is foods/drink with HFCS -- The best is &up saying their soda is 100% natural -- technically HFCS is made form natural ingredients but you have to run it through a centrifuge

As everyone has said it is a cheap form of sweetener. Read recently how much better Cokes take which are bottled outside the US with cane sugar rather than with corn syrup.

I really like meals prepared from raw food. All prepared food products have additives. Unfortunately who has time to do it all.

In the US even Morton salt, and Lawry's season salt have sugar in them.

That’s the problem with American food and the reason why so many people there are fat. Americans add sugar to everything making the food extremely fattening.

    Sugar isn't fattening.

    http://www.wsro.org/public/faqs.html

Americans are fat because they eat too much fast food which is loaded with fat, not sugar.
