Been following Google today and during the last house (4PM Sunday 14th) I have seen a huge drop in visitors and tons of new spam sites showing up in the search.
I have checked their datacenters and a lot of EDU spam and blog spam sites start showing up again and my site and other sites I rack are not to be seen.
I see a lot of sites in the SERP's that have a cache date of Jan 13 so i guess they decided to let loose the cached/spidered pages from yesterday without screening them at all...'

Just when I thought their crap was over, then it starts all over again....

    GEEEEESSSSHHHHhhh...........

Interesting, I need to go look at my placements and see if they have changed. I did notice lighter than normal traffic today.

This has happened before, when Google are cleaning their index for spam sites. Then the spam sites gets good ranking for a couple of days, then they are never seen again.

Earlier today, I made a thread that my sites came back where were before 27.12

It seems that in last hour there are already drop on some major datacenters, and traffic dropped again to almost zero.

    Google is king :)

Are you sure this isn't just a temporary change, and part of the PR update?

    I am sure its temporary

Last 50 days Google is acting crazy, one day great, one nowhere.
Biggest time with no changes was 27.12 - today, then few hours today on pre 27.12 range, now back to nowhere again

I believe they are trying to make some data refreshe, but something is "killing" them ( and us too :) ) in that pocess

They'll fix it soon, I hope. I have already lost at least 1000 $ in this crazy period

Why should it be a part of the PR update, remember , the PR update is a PR TOOLBAR update only, a snapshot of PR. PR updates are going on all the time without us seeing it.

    Interesting comment.

So what if toolbar PR is part of the google's formula or there is some other updates also done at the same time which is not known by Matt. I dont believe that what Matt's said is near the whole reality.

But for this case, i believe that this is another buggy update. I guess, in these situations, while updating they see that they miss some points in their tests and later fix their formula or scripts quickly. Another possibility (for me) is that they just try to make reverse engineering their algorithms much more difficult.

Actually, as of now, one of my sites is seeing 50-60% drop in overall traffic. Pages are all indexed but I am seeing huge drop in google referrals. I had a nice increase from google over the last week or so. I hope it comes back to normal very, very soon. I hate this unpredicatabilty about google. Yahoo is much, much more consistent in that regard. Sure, they give much leass traffic your way but they are consistent.

Are people being able to access google properly? I am not really seeing any real drop in SERPS but just huge drop in referrals. Very strange.
