    Hi people

I have been hearing rumours about a guy under the name 'Yun Ye' I dont know his real name, and I dont think many people do, I know he has a massive collection of domains which he has recently sold.

However apparently he makes $300,000 of AdSense earnings a month seem like nothing.

    anyone know anything about him?

Hum...not sure about this since a press release about adsense earners from $150K/month down to $10K (DP forum owner for exemple).
This release didn't mention anything about that 'Yun Ye'...

Never had heard of him before, but a quick Google search points out that he apparently buys up expired domain names to catch some traffic and to turn them into some kind of mfa sites...

    Good read, thanks.
I love the domain business model, but I think it can take even more time/energy/investment that creating high quality adsense monetised sites.
    Nice find

Sure, why not? The guy who comes up with the new way to do something faster and better always ends up making a lot of money in the beginning. But once people realized what and how he was doing it, he's probably no longer making anywhere near the amount being quoted, and has to work even harder just to match previous earnings. Competition always lowers your profits and forces you to work harder.

i can belive it.. some of the so called .com-ers that got into the web in the 90's are doing quite well now with advertising programs like adsense...

He must have a really keen process / staff to maintain that many websites

    $300K is possible
If you have started a domain business seriously in the 90s you would be able to buy some pretty nice domains that earn lot's of money even only from type-ins and parked pages

I just got an e-mail back from John Chow, he does exist but he cant say anything

edit: This story from a week or so ago sent shockwaves through the pre-owned expired domains market.

It appears that "Yun Ye" of UltSearch is cashing in some of his domains:
The largest domain transaction of all time was announced today (Nov. 23, 2004). Seattle based Marchex, Inc. said they have reached an agreement to buy a portfolio containing tens of thousands of domains from Name Development Inc. in a deal worth just over $164 million.

Name Development appears to be a corporate entity holding domains owned by Yun Ye's Ultimate Search, a pioneering company in the pay per click (PPC) field. Marchex said the deal is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2005.
