Home page from PR0 to PR3, but why interior pages at PR5

Discussion in 'SEO' started by greenlight, Jan 11, 2007.

WTF, can someone explain this one for me? Even my sitemap page is PR5. At first I was disappointed with the PR update as I have been busting ass and saw a homepage of PR3. But I guess the silver lining is that some interiors are PR5.

So can someone help me to understand what happened, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of this.

The site I am referring to is the one on the bottom right of my signature.

    thanks in advance

    Scott

Seems I ahve the same problem for a couple of my sites too. Is Google's over optimisation penalties applying to TBPRs now?

yea may be there are some changes in google's PR algo.. even my site PR has increased even the link no has increased for home pages but inner pages have got push from zero to pr 4.. i guess there is something more to it..than just a regular update

Maybe your inner's have more backlinks than homepage.

Seems like we have another buggy PR update.
The higher inner page PR problem is not new... but did seem to be fixed, it really makes you wonder when something like that comes back.
Anyway, here is a good thread with lots of links to more on the subject:

    Buggy?
    Problem?
I think that's normal while the inner's have more backlinks than homepage.

    The update is still ongoing!

I have sites bouncing up and down all over the place AND have a similar issue with some internal pages ranking as PR3 with home page PR0.

This has NOTHING to do with backlinks!!

Especially as a couple of inner pages are duplicate content and the home page is totally unique!!!

Give G a few more days for the update to settle down and then see what the result is

IF the inner page has more, stronger backlinks, then yes - it would be normal.
But there is a problem - seen when there are no backlinks to the page except from the site itself... even when there are no backlinks to anything but the main page. In some, I have seen the high PR actually go to the last page created before the snapshot period - almost like it ended up at the top of the list to receive PR.

The good news is that in the past, the main page still reacted as though it got the high PR - better crawls, easier to rank, etc.

For the site I am talking about, the home page has by far more links than the rest of the pages.

    Thanks NetMidWest for the link.

    Hi,
I also have a same problem in my site couple of months before. all my inner pages are pr-5 and home page is pr-2. But It was sorted out in the previous G update. so you will be alright after some time.

    Cheers,
    Ramesh.
