Is it worth $299?

I think it is worth getting listed in Yahoo dir.

Sometimes Yahoo forgets to remove your listing after you cancel. Most of the time, their editors will catch the ones who have not paid. Once I was listed for a year and a half for $299. But eventually they caught on, and I had to re-submit as a new listing.

I recommend renewing your listings right away though. The reason being is that you know you're already approved if you're just renewing, but if you have to re-submit as a brand new site, you'e taking a risk on possibly getting rejected. That's $299 down the drain if they reject you.

Do I think it's worth getting listed? Personally, yes. If you are truly serious about the success of your site; and you're in it for the long-run, I say go for it. Most successful sites are listed in the Yahoo Directory. I'm not saying you can't be successful without it, but it does help.

If its just another MFA site that you don't really care much about, I probably wouldn't suggest it.

 

First two pages of results for me, are all sites listed in their directory...

 

Annually it seems like a lot of money to me. I also had this question in my head as to whether or not it would be worth it until I can make at money back on the traffic I would get for that 299.

 

You are right...If your site isn't making much money, I wouldn't recommend it. It may be wiser to wait til your site is more profitable. On the other hand, if your site makes a consistent $xxx to $xxxx every month, it may be a good investment for you.

 

If you have a new site, it's best to make it look non-commercial if possible. And then submit to Yahoo! via the free option. Once you're included, I don't think they review it again.

 

I get no traffic from Yahoo Directory...do it for SEO purposes not for traffic.

I think the free submissions are only open to non-commercial sites, and not all categories allow free submissions. You have to dig around, and see which categories are accepting free submissions.

Some of my non commercial sites, are now 2+ years old.

Good content written by myself so 100% original, they are rather popular, ranking pretty good in keywords i target.


Still not included in yahoo with free sub They are even listed in DMOZ but yahoo hasnt listed anything...

 

I wouldn't spend it on a proxy but for a regular website the Yahoo directory carries weight even in google rankings so it is well worth it!

 

Thanks for such a valuable information. I was also planning to invest in yahoo paid directory inclusion. Now i will improve my content and will try for dmoz.

 

Years ago, it was one of the first places to start, now it's almost useless. Save your $299 and spend it elsewhere.
