Googling An Official Verb?

Discussion in 'Google' started by digitalpoint, Jun 13, 2005.

I'm not sure when Googling became an official verb, but when I was writing this blog entry, I noticed that the spell checker built into my operating system thought "Googling" was spelled right. Funny if you ask me. :)

Yeah.. it is kinda weird, all the new internet words that are creeping their way into our vocabulary. I bet Yahoo and MSN are jellous there is no Yahooing and MSNing ;)

Though Yahoo did try. The whole, "Do you Yahoo?" campaign... I think the biggest thing they got out of that was being sued for using the yodle without permission.

Googling is at least listed in the german "Duden" (the most sold/used german vocabulary book)

This reminds me that Blogger (owned by Google) cannot recognize the following words in its spell checker:

    Google - suggestion "Googol"

    Blogger - suggestion "blocker"

    Blog - suggestion "bloc"

    Kinda sad, huh?

"Yahooling" doesn't sound so good, so this why it can't become a verb.

"hooling" as an alternative reminds me on holigans.
