keyword density

Discussion in 'Keywords' started by allwayslearning, Jan 8, 2007.

It seems like keyword density is becoming less important with search engines as the become more intelligent therefore focusing on theme of the site rather than keywords however it most likely has come effect still I have not paid much attention to this in a log time as I have someone else write my text with guidelines set by me. Originally I tried to keep keyword density at 9 percent, (a number I was told was good,) but that was to high and things worked better as far as making since to humans to go with around 6 percent but I am thinking about taking it down to 2 percent.

However I don't want to make this kind of change without input from someone who may know more about this than I do. Yesterday while researching this I read that 2 to 6 percent was good but want to verify this by some of the people on this forum as I have found some very knowledgeable people posting on this forum.

I don't think any pro SEO bothers with the exact % anymore since 2002. Just write text that reads well to users whilst making sure your phrases appear a couple of times. No need to go all scientific.

if you're going old school then 1.5% to 2.5% is a good starting point.

If it's human researched and written content then a 'theme' will naturally occur.

He he.. while I agee it is OLD SCHOOL - we can still get 'scientific' about it. We tend to look at LSI and Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval theories these days for content creation. It is the modern day equivalence.

Do you think 2% is good? I don't think google will take that into account. Search "PowerIso Tutorial" in google, in the first page there is my page. But that keywords only shares about 0.1% in that page.

Exactly! If KD is used, it will be on a comparative basis - there won't be a fixed magical number.

Generally, peope think 2% to 7% is ok. It depends on so many factors. The length of text, the theme and so on. I have seen sites with 8% density do so well. I have seen sites with 2% do so well. So there is no clear cut percentage. But we must remember - we need to write for humans too. I think if you write naturally for humans, the percentage will be just right.

Question is - do you know any SEOs that actually care? KW density is dead - long live phrase based indexing and retrieval!!!

Search engines do not value links according to theme of site.

I get good rankings on some keywords even though I have a general blog.

The disadvantage of a general blog might be RSS and email subscription, but for rankings I don't think there is any difference.

Otherwise all news sites like CNN, Digg, Slashdot will have no rankings.
And that is why categories where created.
