Having the url on the avatar can work well, I feel. I am sure many people will check it out just like they would on a link in the signature, but not as many, of course.

yes the avatars will only help to create awareness among members and guests about your site and will only tell how determined you are into promoting your websites

I think the avatar is good for marketing. Look at mine. The owner Paula now sells the site...so it was worth the investment for her.

Branding is precisely why people should NOT sell their avatars.

They should keep their own to brand their own stuff.

But sure, it works - even for those NOT familiar with the brand.

Personally, I don't like it. Signatures either.

When I read a post made by someone and I find their ideas interesting, I want to see what their site looks like. With so many selling their avatar and signature space; I rarely, if ever visit any of the sites listed anymore because they more often than not belong to someone else.

    Great ideea with advertising avatars.
Now you all have the same "personalities".

Even so..I enjoy Seven Seek one.

    What`s next..selling the Location space?
    :)

It depends on how catchy your signatures are, what type of sites you list and if the sites listed within the signature is related to the forums topic.
