FireFox made $52 million from Adsense in 2005!

Ever wonder how FireFox makes money? From the Google search box. If you use that box to make a search and click on one of the Google ads from the results page, Firefox gets an estimated 80% of the money.

I'm glad to hear Firefox is making money, I'd hate to have to go back to IE.

The article says they made in $2.4 million in 2003 and $5.8 million in 2004, so how can you estimate they made $52 million in 2006? Unless of course thats a fact.

He didn't make an estimate. He said 52 million in 2005. You said 5.8 million in 2005. Your figure seems more likely.

No, actually the $5.8 million was for 2004 according to the article.

It's good to see OS software doing so good! Clearly shows that OS is a viable option for software products.

The answer is pretty simple, both Google and FireFox have been using the same monopoly strategies that have characterized Microsoft for years now, and they both even use the same marketing tactics so it's usual finding places forcing you (or pseudo-suggesting) to use FireFox rather than any other browser.

Too much to talk about, too lazy for doing it on Saturday, when no FF, GG, IE or any other really cares :D

Firefox is an awful product. Its latest encarnation makes it a nightmare for anybody traveling from a location with no proxies to a location with proxies.

Also, it crashes like theres no tomorrow. I use opera and it crashes maybe once every month. While FireFox crashes every day. And its a memory hog.

For $56million I hope they arnt buying each other Ferrari's and investing it on fixing bugs.

    woooooooooooooooooo........

you must've been kidding me ?

Dont understand me wrong...i use FF all the time as well as the google search-box.

But i did NOT know that moz foundation basically had "built in" their ad-tracker code there as this article suggests - and SOMEHOW i just highly doubt this.

FF is open source...eg. i am using a open/public available 3rd part built for a long time already and i know there are many pretty known people who do optimizied builds using the FF source-code, just to name a few, mmoy, moox, bangbang or whatever their name is.

So..whoops....WHY did i NEVER come up with the idea...i get the latest source-code for FF and hardcode in my own google-tracker reference...i promote my new build with this and that features...and people using this and i get money for every clck they make on the google/amazon/whatever bar ?

I think i sit down now and write my own browser...or....let me think. STOP. i am a lazy a$$. I just write an extension.

Something easy. Something extremely helpful. And i put something in making me money up the wazoo...and i do NOT tell anyone about it. It's obviously not needed...nor illegal..maybe i can put a little disclaimer somewhere..i mean mozilla does it too, so it cant be wrong/immoralic or against any law.

    Have to think about this...

I wonder if Mozilla worries about late PIPs or getting their Adsense account banned. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't firefox have some sort of special unique deal with google where all referring searches are paid 80%? it's not like you can just write some crappy extension or FF clone and embed your adsense ID in it... It's something custom and unique.
