Picfury.com - a major success...but my programmer has died or smthn..

Hello everyone,
I have decided to sell one of my most successful sites. Im pretty pissed and ....this is the main reason for taking this decision.

The site is Picfury.com

It is an advanced image hosting site with unique affiliate system and tracking.

I have paid a ukranian "vunderkind" programmer to develop the site from scratch for me. It took about 3 months of coding, testing, debugging and etc for the site to be finished.

The programmer was really amazing...he did all this by himself. However he dissapeared and now I have to pay freelancers to fix if anything happens.

The site has about 7000 registered loyal users which have been generating an average of 30 k- 40 k impressions per day.

The site was developed in such way that it is completely compatible with adsense. In addition if you decide to accept adult photos, this wont be a problem, because there is a section for reviewing pics which is very optimized. From this section the reviewer simply ticks under thumbs dynamically generated for the uploaded photos whether its adult or not. If adult, the template of the page where the pic is is replaced with one with suitable adult sponsors, and this way adsense is strictly monitored not to be on pages which contain adult photos.

You can pay someone to do it for you, or you can do it yourself like I was doing it. It was taking me 15 minutes to review 3000 pictures. And currently the site gets about 1000 per day.

It breaks my heart to see this project go down and this is the reason why I am selling it. Simply I cant manage to support this thing, because I lack the skills. I am a business adminstration graduate and am sick of dealing with freelancers to administer this site.

At one point when the ukranian dude was still responding to me, and when everything was going smooth, the site picked up a great mommentum and was going 100k impressions per day.

The programmer Sergyi Lysak who has created this piece of art has disappeared 5 months ago. And ever since this site has been giving me headaches. The development of the script costed me $2100

The site has enormous potential. It is self promoting, optimized, and with a steady amount of users.

Studying and other projects have made me replace the adsense with adbrite now, cuz I dont review the pics anymore. For November I have sold 3 links for $ 150, got about $100 from adultfriend finder, and around $200 from adsense, and about $50 from cpxinteractive..... which makes a total of around 500.

For december I made $150 from adultfriendfinder, about $80 (because I removed it at an early point) from adsense, $40 from adbrite, 45 from cpxinteractive and $150 from the links.

In each case it was all going near $500 a month..

Site is hosted on a dedicated server..which was costing me 130 per month.

I have developed a clone of the site couple of months ago to try to develop it aside from picfury. The address is affiliate-pics.com...I never invested any efforts in developing and currently it receive around 10 visitors per day.


This is final, I will sell no matter what price. I have to move on. I have too much on my head...

buyer will have resell right on the unique script and can do whatever he wants.. I would personally start selling this as a turnkey, but again...lack the time and skills.

Hi all... here are screenshots

Well so far I have only paid $70 for affiliates.

This is because people very rarely manage to pass the threshold of $20 (which can be changed at any moment)

 

revenue is still comming yes. Even though the site has been experiencing quite alot of trouble due to negligence (on my part), its been generating some good cash.

As you can see for the last month there were three sales from Adult friend finder, and adbrite has been going the same way as adsense..(very strange imo)

 

Update: Actual number of registered users until today is 6924.

After endless discussion with my coder about all possible problems, I decided to place an initial bid : $ 700.00

 

What type of issues where you having? Would you be willing to just hand over the dedicated server so that we don't have to move the site and if so what are the specs on the server? Were you ever close to overloading it?

 

Same question as forumbooster re. the dedicated server and specs. What is the current size of the site (with hosted files)? And how much money are you paying out monthly for your affiliate system?

The server is quite balanced actually. I have picked it specifically for this website.

The load has always been minimal. I dont think the server was ever in an overload. Downtimes were cause by other factors. For example several times disk space was full, due to not monitoring. There are alot of files which have not been accessed for long time, I have hired a coder btw to make a script which will delete files which have not been accessed for more than 30 days. He should be done by 1-2 days. I will give the script to new owner.

I usually solve the problem with disk space by deleting the oldest folders with files (files which were uploaded before 7-8 months). The script is well configured to run on multiple servers, but...again I have not put any efforts of doing so.

All the problems are small glitches which are typical for such an advanced site. The site needs an admin to check on it once a day and make sure everything is fine.

Today's problem was caused because of a bug which made a write restriction to a folder where uploaded files were put. After I contacted a coder, he fixed that in 2 minutes...but the site was not functioning a whole day, cuz I had to go to a freelancers site, and make a project, then select the guy, then explain...give access....and all that. Frankly this is the reason why I am selling.

I have two other sites which are receiving very little amount of traffic. I will hand down the server as it is and I will move the other sites on one of my other servers.

 

I have given server specs in my previous post.

Current size of the site is about 145 gb with all files...I guess it will be easier to transfer the other sites to one of my other machines than transfer this one to yours. Courtesy for the transfer of my sites will be appreciated, cuz otherwise I will have to pay for someone to do it.

Regarding affiliate payments.
For the last 4 months I have paid about $80 to affiliates. Frankly it is very hard for people to overcome the minimum payout threshold which is set at $20.

All of the users which overcame the threshold were from india. In most cases they were uploading adult photos which is agains the terms of the site. I had the right not to pay them, because It is explicitly said that it is forbidden. However I have paid them.

The database keeping track of the balances of users has to be tuned cuz there are some minor glitches.
