People from Stumbleupon don't click ads?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by sz2006, Jan 4, 2007.

Today I get around 1,000 visitors from Stumbleupon. But almost zero of them clicked my adsense ads. That's really frustrating, even worse than Digg. So Diggers don't like ads, del.icio.us users don't like ads, now Stumblers don't like ads. What should I do?
Or maybe as more and more people know what Adsense ads are, they click less and less?

I would stay away from stumble... once you get stumbled you will very likely get
smart priced for all of your sites. Also, I believe traffic from stumble can be against their tos.

Google is going to have to start rethinking their adsense program...every day that goes by people are getting more and more blind to the ads.

I get lots of traffic myself from places like digg, stumbleupon, shoutwire etc. I cant see how that would be against tos of google to get traffic from places like that. If you run a news related site f.ex its very common to get featured on sites like that if people find your articles interesting. Its not exactly something you can easily avoid either.

wrong. people stumblingupon your site may be more ads blind, but yet when they click they are interested -> absolutely no reason to get smartpriced.

you believe wrong, check out the tos again

I get a decent amount of traffic from stumbleupon and it's true. They don't convert well. That's not important though. Many of them turn into return visitors, it adds to the site exposure and it's after all free pr (not pagerank, public relations).

Most of them are advanced users and ads blind I guess.

Also, clicking on 'stumble' is more likely to get them to interesting pages then clicking on ads.

Stumble doesn't offer targeted traffic. Like Fsmedia suggested, you'll do a lot better with search engine visitors.. at least that works for me! :)

It's hard to believe that they are any worse than Digg, to be honest. CTR of less than 1% is what I often expect from Digg.

I used to never click on ads, but I'm starting to. I think the culture needs to be changed. If you are provided a service for free, then you should be expected to click on one ad of interest.

    You give and you receive.

I like the fact that stumbleupon gives me another type of traffic. It may not convert well, but it gives my site exposure and it makes my site less dependent on google.

Thats almost like social begging. You just need to work on profiting from your own efforts.

I think you should work on search engine traffic, get some newer sufers to your site. I am guessing that this would certainly increase your clicks.

Very, very low CTR is the norm for traffic from social bookmarking.
