Hi guys, I'm specifically posting looking for folks who need help with their databases. I am taking many database courses (Oracle 9i and MySQL) as I finish up college, and really hope to get a job as a DBA when I get out. However, as of yet, I have no (real world) experience. I am not looking to charge anything --- just want to help folks out and get the experience. So, if you have a database problem, feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll see what I can do. All I ask is that you backup your database first; I know what I'm doing, but accidents can and do happen. (I have gotten an 'A' in each of my database classes so far. ) In turn, I would hope that I could use you as a reference when I go hunting for my DBA job.
Hey mate; I am in the same boat as you. I graduate here in July. With a major in computer information systems and a minor in database administration. DBA is such a hard field to get into at entry level... its rediculous and unfair to us I think Anyways, There are some things I will recomend that will help you out (to do after you graduate). I assume you have been studying ORACLE ? - A++ certification if you havn't yet - MSCE certification - Oracle Certification http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=39 Those are on my todo list as well....
If I were to guess as I am in the same boat as him, I would say free. No one wants a DBA with no experience. heh.
Wow! Do I ever need help?? I need help with databases. Oddly enough, I am booked into a course that I hope will get me started on my way, but it's not until the end of Feb I have 8 databases that I need to import to MySQL (on 8 different sites) and sort the data into new categories etc.. I need help getting started so that I can plod on on my own. Let me know if either of you can or want to help. I can also pay if I am asking above and beyond your call of duty Thanks. (Hi Drew!!)
Hi i have just made a post that maybe you could help me with its http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=218575 Thanks in advanced.
Hi! I can possibly help. I would only ask that you back everything up first! How large is each database? And what format are they currently in? ~ D
Everything is either backed up or at a point where it's easy enough to reload everything to get it back to where it is now. The largest DB is about 7meg The format is SQL. Please let me know if you are still able to help and I will PM you access details and what I am trying to achieve. Hope you can help! I appreciate it. Jez.
