how to improve Yahoo rank

I'm a big believer in <h> tags before almost every paragraph. Certainly before every subsection of the content. I've never used the double heading like you are suggesting and my headings are usually a little shorter and more consise than your. They look like a headline and not just part of the Paragraph in bold.

I guess that is the problem I have with your sample page. I just don't think it looks nice.

I am following this pattern for one of my sites and yes, I have seen nice results.

 

I get neged a bit too... diverse opinions is what makes this site great.

I thought there was a service called Yahoo! SiteMatch that would automatically find a spot for you in the Yahoo Directory but I could not find it. Did they get rid of it when they bought overture or was it never there in the first place?

 

They still have Yahoo! Site Match but it was never for the directory, just a fast inclusion submission service into the Yahoo! search index.

Correct! Some people still don't seem to differentiate the Directory from the search engine. And of course many in this thread believe that paying $300 per year to get into the directory will boost your ranking in the SERPs. I stll say it won't and doesn't.

I wouldn't have minded at all if I'd posted an opinion, but all I posted was facts. Since I got added to the Yahoo directory I went up to really top spots with a non-existant backlinked site with no SEO. Maybe it was a coincidence, that they added me the same time they crawled me. Caveat lector as always, shrug.

 

The part that I don't get about the pay fee for the yahoo directory is that you are not even garunteed to get ANYTHING for your money and it is a recurring charge year to year.

Gee, I sure wish I could get paid good money and not actually have to do anything.

It's a good job I've just read the thread about how swearing offends some people, because otherwise when I saw this remark I would have probably told you to fuck off!

 

Just a quick note about the yahoo directory, I asked that same question a few weeks back.. and decided to bite the bullet.. My site shot from number 35 to number 2. It seems that directory entries have priority in their search engine results... I would have to say that this a good thing cause it means the top positions are taken by sites that have beem reviewed by humans. You can't spam the directory.

I am in the process of doing this to a few more sites of mine. Take a look at a search for ringtones, or jewelry ... The directory is part of the ranking algo..

 

Is it your directory listing that shot up or the organic one?

 

As far as I Knew the fee is to review the site . The recurring fee is charged if the entry is accepted and continued next year . Please let me know if I am wrong .

Ok to some extent you may be right but Sir , A search engine optimiser , one who performs and not just grab a contract ) is not what you can refer to this way . search engine optimisation is the toughest thing on the internet .

Please don't be under the impression that Human evaluated sites are weighed more in yahoo , or any other search engine . Your position in search engine results
shot up because of the page rank that got transfered from the yahoo directory . Yahoo homepage is PR 10 and I expect the directory pages to be PR8 and the rank that your page has now should be around 6-7 depending on the other links both internal and external . Is that right ?

Your search engine position on google should also have increased . Google indexes that directory regularly. If I am right either you are on Number 1 position in google or on the second page .
Yahoo gives a little more weight to the text . As far as spam is concerned Yahoo is currently showing a BLOCK link with all the listings . Clicking it may result in either complete penalisation or may be only from your IP , I am not sure . I did not get time to check that one today.

It is better that you optimise your pages of the new sites , than depending only on the directory. And Please Optimise , not Stuff .
